Meditation On A Heavenly Sight
I never saw a true meteor,
My superior brain refused to believe,
despite nagging doubts.
I ignored the sacred scholars and ancient wisdom.
Rules taught me to obey.
I am no prisoner to lies or
Hostage to improbability.
I am no Galileo.
Till late one night,
when in a
Time of solace,
I gazed upon the sky.
It was dark and somehow clear
and like my life,
Full of emptiness.
But the candle in my hand
was burning hot -
And I could suddenly
See everything.
All the stars looked at me,
A curious dot of no importance,
When there you came. You were a Perseid blazing
across my path,
A meteor right before my eyes.
There was so much to see.
A golden glow, and
Fiery strong and dauntless,
You smashed all the rules.
You shattered my illusions,
You thrashed the inquisition
of my doubts,
and I dared to believe.
What I saw, what I found,
In you. Impossible.
Ageless, endless, youthful beauty –
A jewel hanging in the heavens –
You should not be real,
Yet there you are.
I reached out and touched you,
You invited me along, and I said yes –
Or was it the other way around –
I forgot – I’m not supposed to be Galileo Galilee.
Finding you – I found a dream –
And my eyes will never close. To find you – all I had to do was ignore
my distractions and obsessions,
Till there was nothing to ignore but emptiness.
In emptiness, you find everything,
Including yourself.
There are no more rules,
There’s no need -
I am the rule.
For now it seems –
I truly am Galileo Galilee.
This poem is more than just about seeing a meteor blazing across the night sky. It is about meeting someone who opened my eyes in a way that they can never change or be closed again. That person is the true "heavenly sight". It's about life and that "journey" and what we find along the path in life. It is about self discovery.
Dedicated to Cassy, who opened my eyes to my own abilities and potential - and also dedicated to sweet Fehl. You both have opened my mind and my life to so many possibilities. You are my guardian angels and you give me wings.
