Meditation On A Heavenly Sight - Poem By Cathy Nerujen

I never saw a true meteor,

My superior brain refused to believe,

despite nagging doubts.

I ignored the sacred scholars and ancient wisdom.

Rules taught me to obey.

I am no prisoner to lies or

Hostage to improbability.

I am no Galileo.

Source

Till late one night,

when in a

Time of solace,

I gazed upon the sky.

It was dark and somehow clear

and like my life,

Full of emptiness.

But the candle in my hand

was burning hot -

And I could suddenly

See everything.

All the stars looked at me,

A curious dot of no importance,

When there you came.

You were a Perseid blazing

across my path,

A meteor right before my eyes.

There was so much to see.

A golden glow, and

Fiery strong and dauntless,

You smashed all the rules.

You shattered my illusions,

You thrashed the inquisition

of my doubts,

and I dared to believe.

What I saw, what I found,

In you. Impossible.

Ageless, endless, youthful beauty –

A jewel hanging in the heavens –

You should not be real,

Yet there you are.

I reached out and touched you,

You invited me along, and I said yes –

Or was it the other way around –

I forgot – I’m not supposed to be Galileo Galilee.

Finding you – I found a dream –

And my eyes will never close.

Source

To find you – all I had to do was ignore

my distractions and obsessions,

Till there was nothing to ignore but emptiness.

In emptiness, you find everything,

Including yourself.

There are no more rules,

There’s no need -

I am the rule.

For now it seems –

I truly am Galileo Galilee.

This poem is more than just about seeing a meteor blazing across the night sky. It is about meeting someone who opened my eyes in a way that they can never change or be closed again. That person is the true "heavenly sight". It's about life and that "journey" and what we find along the path in life. It is about self discovery.

Dedicated to Cassy, who opened my eyes to my own abilities and potential - and also dedicated to sweet Fehl. You both have opened my mind and my life to so many possibilities. You are my guardian angels and you give me wings.

Wow Astra this is stunning! Like the fiery meteor falling..Ow I rhymed LOL You're not a car, you're a poet ;) You expressed this so beautiful as the night..and when the sky is dark, there are no rules :) CG, looks who's in love with you ;)

I adore this. XX Blaise

Hello blaise, I just found this comment. Glad you like the Meditation poem. The car thing has me smiling here now. The meteor reference has to do with the recent news of the meteor showers happening lately in the sky and I had the idea for the poem I was writing at the time, so I changed it slightly and voila.

I really let my mind go free here, and it's non-rhyming, otherwise it would take me weeks to write. Lol! Yes, I am wrapped nicely around her finger. Ooooh! Did I just say that here. : )

Thanks blaise, you're a star! : D (Star, meteor, get it?)

Wowwwww, jeeeez I thought I could pen the odd poem but Cathy this is without doubt the best love poem I have ever read. It way surpasses your previous poem and I especially love the verses I quoted above. Being an old romantic I feel jealous of Cassy to have someone who loves her with a passion to pour out words like you have but I am also really pleased for you both as you are two lovely girls who I love to bits.

Enjoy your love girls, life passes by so quickly so savour every second, hugs to you both.

Me a star and meteor? Wow! **blush.. Thanks moi friend! Yup, just let it flow..don't bother if it won't rhyme. I like free verse than rhyming but often I tend to rhyme when I talk..while in poems, I don't LOL Have a meteor shower night moi friends :)

Okay, yup, I said that. Don't fret. I like the free rhyme, it is easier, but I worry it feels less like poetry, just like making love with one's clothes on seems less um..er...oh boy, find that delete key. Ha.

You talk in rhyme? Oh you're kidding me, blaise. That is funny. Kind of like an old fashioned minstrel or bard, right? You don't play a small harp per chance? :D

Yes, we will have a meteor...uh, yes, we'll do that. :D)

I always love getting your comments, blaise. X

Simon_Towel 6 years ago

I believe you were asking Cassy "Simon Who?", like ok I really loved your poem young lady but I called at your flat one night to talk to Cathy whilst you were having a bath.

I heard you singing in the bath and I am afraid to tell you that sorry but its a big NO from me and you won't be coming back next week. You ask "Simon Who?", methinks Simon_Towel needs to write a few funny entertainment hubs, doncha think lol ; ) xox

Astra Nomik profile image

Astra Nomik 6 years ago from Edge of Reality and Known Space Author

LMAO!!!! I was told all about Simon by Cassy! That is so hilaroius, Art. I didn't have a clue till she told me "That's TattoGuy, you big ninny!" Well how was I to know? Lol. That is "before my time". But we are laughing even more now, because Cassy just saw this comment on my page.

Cassy is thrilled that you are back, Mr Cowell...sorry, Mr Towel. (laughing still) [also, how did you know I sing in the bath? Are you peeking at me??] Lol. Well today is full of nice surprises. And it's a big Yes from Cassy and I.

Oh yes, some funny entertainment hubs are just what the world (and Hub Pages) needs.

I'd never hug Simon Cowell but I'll hug you any time, Art. Thank you for making my day "Astra Nomik". :)

Wishing I could delete that comment now. LOL. These comments are supposed to be about my poetry, you people. (Laughs) Oh well. At least you get my point, blaise. I wasn't sure it would make sense. But thanks. We are having a crazy day here today. See Ya. ;)

Maita, if I made you think, then I am somehow doing something right. Thank you for being so supportive in my poetry. Did Cassy make you think? She is better at doing that than anyone. I will tell her anyway. Ha. Take care ok. X

I enjoyed your poetry Astra! Enjoyed comments by your whole group equally. Hey! what is going on here. meditation with love or love in meditation or meditation in love. Cool! or heat, One can feel it even in far away Mumbai, where I am. What ever it is, way you write poetry and these comments, very soon you are going to a big star and these actions may become parts gossip columns. Wish you your whole group all the good luck.

OMG, Blaise, I never replied to your comment! Eeek! I'm sorry! Some comments went all over the place here. I get the point about making love with clothes on thing. Ha. Nice that you made the connection. Yes, I do say some strange things at times. But I have to keep track of what I said back there, so sorry if the comments are confusing to people. (Feels like watching TV with someone changing channels on me.)

Blaise, you are a great poet, and your humor can permeate anything, even steel. xx

Hi soumyasrajan: I appreciate your commenting here. Yes, this is quite a merry group of comments. The hub is a poem about the sighting of a meteor, written by someone who normally has never seen one, so the sight of a real one is quite breath-taking, and even awe inspiring. I use this as an analogy of love for someone in my life. Someone I thought almost too good to be true, like the meteor. But the person, like the meteor, is all too very real. So it is in fact a meditation in love, and to an extent, love in meditation as that is how I felt when writing it, and even now.

As for my becoming a star...that is a very nice comment, the astronomical reference is not lost on me. Ha. I don't think I am as famous as that, and we are gossiping far too much. But we do that some times. And you are welcome to join us any time. I wish you luck, and happiness too. :)

soumyasrajan 6 years ago from Mumbai India and often in USA

Hi! Astra

Thanks a lot. I will be happy to be part of your group, geographically far but online hubs make people almost touching each other. Even in love and so intensely, you write so nice lines

"In emptiness, you find everything,

Including yourself.

There are no more rules,

There’s no need -

I am the rule.

For now it seems –"

Indeed shows some deep understanding. You seem to have got enlightenment (nirvana) in love for your meteor.

Wish you all the good luck for complete identification with meteor.

Hi soumyasrajan: the net brings people closer. The lines, I need lots more practice and hard work. Ha. But thanks for the comment. Oh to be Shelley or Keats...

Enlightenment might almost be a relative term, but I found quite a few things, and some of it is knowledge. I think empathy and other factors figure into it too. I am a grain of sand in a beach before an ocean. Thank you for the wishes. Take care. Peace.

Hi Acer: I love that comment. It is so true, just getting up into space is the hard bit. Wonder could Nasa let me have one of those dis-used Shuttles "on the cheap"? It's not like they will be using them any more. LOL. Thank you for the nice comments and the retweet I just spotted too. :)

Lovely metaphor! I could relate.... Not believing something can realy be true, and then experiencing it myself....

Astra Nomik profile image

Astra Nomik 4 years ago from Edge of Reality and Known Space Author

Hi Sannel, thank you for the kind comments. Oh words are like bits of paint to me and I love painting pictures with them. There is no limit to what we can do with words. Writers who write a lot know the special bond between words and paint. They help us get our ideas and our message out there to the world. And if the people like it and find it entertaining, then that is a bonus.

Thank you Sannel, have a sweet weekend. Hugs from me. :)

Hi Deborah, this is from a while back, and I dusted it off and decided to let people have another read of it. So for all the people out there who though amazing things could never happen to them, this poem is for them. And I wrote it because of a meteor shower that was being publicized at the time. Thank you Deborah. :)

Hi Martie, yes the metaphor of the meteor and the arrival of someone special in my life was too much of a temptation to turn down poetically. Heh. I'm glad you can relate. Thank you for the comments. Have a nice weekend.

Hugs from Cathy
