Memories, Mourning and Tears

Memories, Mourning and Tears

Shadows soared toward the skies,

angels stared with astonishment

as death lies,

the devil’s heart quickened with gratitude,

he collected his share,

however crude,

it was fair,

although the angels selected first,

the souls collected by evil

would ripple and burst,

without protection without a shield,

off the battlefield

they fought for what was right and wrong,

on the battlefield,

the fighting took so long,

as they fought for their very lives,

and in many cases, no one survives,

God’s cry echoed across the plains,

littered with dead and wounded soldiers,

as if he felt the pains,

the church bells wrung,

as the battle’s triumphant tone, stung,

and only mercy would hide,

world leaders had their pride,

as the dead solders’ ghosts

would move away with a graceful glide,

and their loved ones faces exuded despair,

as they collected their share,

which consisted of memories, mourning and tears.

Good imagery Frank. The title should attract the reader's attention at the very least and it did for me. I agree with you with regards to the death penalty. Voted up awesome and interesting!

Awesome, Frank, truly awesome!! These lines struck me:

"God’s cry echoed across the plains,

littered with dead and wounded soldiers,"

It is the least man could wish for God to feel pain and anger Him, but it happens so every now and then. Only we, as man, can make up for it, if it is not too late...

I would like to share this Frank in my Passionate Poetry page on Facebook so many others can read it. - https://www.facebook.com/PassionatePoetry

Thanks and Cheers!

This is a really excellent poem Frank..good and evil presiding over the battlefield, filtering out the fallen; the love ones though, not having a choice, as they must accept the tragic reality of war. Voted up and awesome!
