Mis-takes

Source

Don't Stop, Mac Fleetwood

If I stand back...

scrutinize my own history

and have the choice

to remove every mistake,

wipe out every willful fault,

forget about weaknesses exposed,

clear the slate of harsh words,

rub out ‘taken for granted’

and mop out all the times

I did not stand for my truth...

I will not change a thing!

Mistakes were my teachers

I’ve learnt well,

and in my humanity

tried not to repeat them.

I am gentle with myself now

because they will appear

on my path again

to teach more lessons.

Willful faults have dwindled now.

You see I’ve realized

that I do have a choice;

to bring healing or hurting -

and now I know

which choice brings happiness.

The shame of what I thought

to be weaknesses

no longer lingers,

for whom I am now,

through acceptance...

carries no shame.

Every harsh word I have spoken

I have forgiven myself for

and asked forgiveness,

for it brought tenderness and understanding

to my heart.

I never take life for granted.

thankyou. good hub to make us feel that we can forgive ourselves for the things we have done wrong. We all learn from our lessons and mistakes. And most of us don't do it again.

Thank you everyone for all your encouraging and kind words. I think this is a facet of our lives that we all share in common, we all commit mistakes at one time or another and we just have to learn how to get on with our lives and be a better person as a result.

Thank you cre8ivOne (love your username by the way), your compliment inspires me. I am not as confident with my poetry as I am with my article or essay writing so your comment is much appreciated.

There is a swahili proverb that goes "kosa si kosa, kosa ni kurudia kosa" (a mistake is not a mistake- unless you repeat it). Like you said, mistakes should be our teaches. I enjoyed reading your poem. Voted up,useful and interesting

In the words of the famous song.

Regrets I have a few

But then again too few to mention.

lyndre, a famous song indeed and a timeless one too. Living a life with few regrets is something we should all aspire for.
