Misplaced Emotions

like the piniata that hangs full......
waiting for the swing of the sticks
stored well away from his vision
forgotten like  hidden tricks

but ....it can't hold forever
an unraveling .... no strings attached
Once the hold breaks free
a flood of emotions unmatched

a tremor ....a quake just enough to
send the warning
It all comes from the nightmares of pain
remembered in early morning

he still looks at his hands now and then
just to wonder......are they really mine
and the deeds they have done
echo through his mind

the soldier awaits his orders .......
baggage still in hand
and for so many men and women
all across this land

nation building has taken a heavy price
paid for by blood
all that is left is the breakdown as
ptsd releases it's flood

America asks so much of the soldier and then we tell him or her the same story.....you are the patriot...... the hero..... the saviour .......for the most part though the nightmares belong to them alone . When you look at your hero .........the son or daughter , the father or mother , years from now , know this , they are still in that dark time that you have already forgotten.

Thank you, ahorseback, for writing this! It is sooooo true!

My heart truly aches at the truth of the matter! The nightmares are theirs alone, indeed!

Thoughful Hub ahorseback, indeed your words ring true, we've no idea the nightmares they have lived through. And, how do they ever get back to normal is anyone's guess...it's a shame it ever had/has to be...It's unforgiveable!

PTSD , is a serious problem thats another one of those ailments that isn't easily recongnized nor readily treated. For our vets , its pretty much ignored . Thanks for reading.

WAR should be considered a crime against humanity. Any worthy purpose to it could and should be attended to without killing and maiming young men and women. It's criminal. We must honor those who serve and care about their pain and afflictions -- and stop sending in new batches to be butchered as fast as more can be trained to want to go submit to it.

If ordinary citizens did that to other citizens, they'd be locked up and the key would be thrown away.

Nellieanna , There are so many vets ,men and women who suffer endlessly. And there has always been , we never learn it seems. :-} Nice to see you.

I know. I've been close to several vets; some who suffered more than others. Even the mildest suffering is too much, though. To interrupt any young person's natural flow of living is horrible, and possibly more so for men. Studies have shown that a regular flow of experience is essential to their optimal development, whereas women can "bounce back" more easily (for various reasons). It is so terrible to subject any young person to that kind of interruption, though. War is not a natural part of human development, but it has become as inevitable as things which are, it seems.

This is a personal agenda , I come from a long line of veterans that never ask in return nor expect anything for thier sacrifices . Nor were hy given much.....we have no real need to throw our young to the dogs of war like we do. Mothers and fathers ? It seems so senseless. I worry that corporate America , {world ] plays too much a part in war. Thank you and take care Nellieanna

Kudos to you ahorseback! Awesome job on presenting an awareness poem on PTSD. Yes it extremely unfortunate that so many of our Heroes endure this mental pain.

Thank you for your truth, ahorseback, so often poorly camoflaged in media and coporate hype. There is nothing to be gained by war and I agree with Nellieanna, it is a crime against humanity. Those that live with PTSD, and their families relive the horror daily and often for many, many years. For what?

TCM Specialist , Thank you , This is one thing I would change if I could , before any other. I'm glad you shared.

Fennelseed , It may be that we ,in our hearts , want so badly to end senseless wars . That we overlook the greater messege. There are millions among us that sacrifice just for thier belief that it's for US!. I can't know the answers , why ? In spite of the wide range of beliefs , We have an obligation as humans to comfort and heal these great patriots. Thank you for you're compassion ,you're caring! Nice to get to know you!

Very true words in this poem dad. Even for me some of the bad things done in my life or decisions I have made that still haunt me...pale in comparrison. All man is known to thnk back on deeds done and for our soldiers I can never imagine the anxieties, night terrors, anguish they live with daily!! We as man often need someone to remind us.. lay your worries down at the foot of the cross and leave them there. Although it seems difficult to do at times. I have a Joyce meyer cd that has helped me on forgiveness and healing. its actually from her book, From Beauty to Ashes...AWESOME!! love and hugs
