Moments in the Dark

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Illicit dreams and abstract scenes,

bemoan my mental gymnastic leans,

portraying fractured moments gleaned,

from scattered remnant strife.

My mind a slave to all that’s been,

in deadly crags and hollows seen,

my darker self in mental health,

a constant spectre shown.

In mind obsess in words redress,

relentless voices mental stress,

I withdraw now from my inner best,

and assume the foetal position.

My thoughts the actions of someone else,

without my blessing my brain it melts,

those voices haunt and pain that’s dealt,

brings me to my knees.

The darkness breeds those vision seeds,

those black and bloody dastardly deeds,

of gore and gloop and gaping wounds,

that eyes can no longer stand.

I lie devout I just want out,

my mind to clear what this‘s about,

this nightmare gone is all I spout,

relieve me please of sleep.

When dawn it comes and light invokes,

I pray my mind in bliss revoke,

unwanted pain and fires stoke,

turn off this fractious mind.

Tony, I so admire your style, the rhythm and flow of your writing. It is all your own and you do it so very well. You picked a great topic: the dark and ominous nightmares of a tortured mind. Excellent!

what a tale of what one goes through in their nightmares. I for one really liked the ending, as it reminded me of a swimmer getting that breath of fresh air that one desparately yearns for upon reaching the surface of the water (as your air was just about to run out from the fear of the dream).....very good emotions you envoked in this.
