Montana ......a Poem

I suppose if you've ever wanted to go
then you will one day
But there's so much about Montana
then black on white can begin to say

Her high granite peaks her low level
plains and rivers and streams
The headwaters to a nation
those rivers are born in dreams

But the Montana of my dreams has
no words in fair descriptions
Her truest beauty in all her majesty like
any woman's afflictions

I think if Montana were a lady she'd rather
be dressed in finest leather than in lace
Like the rawhide of a beautiful maiden
all her beauty is in her face

The taste of this raw beauty the sublime
in the way she moves
Dancing across a big sky morning
slowly she preens and grooves

I will dance with you again Montana if
nothing more .......after I've gone
But she will remain forever in the rivers
in the setting sun
in the dawn

I know now why better men have come and gone
her beauties true and fast
If you go last to the most beautiful place
you've saved the best for last
