Movie Master's Prize Parsnip

On a cold winters day

I have to say

I love tucking into

A nice tasty stew

Gravy and meat

Oh what a treat

But the best part for me

Just has to be

When a parsnip or two

Is added to stew

Oh how I drool

I’m a bit of a fool.....

The taste - the smell

That I love so well

So it seemed only right

That this delight

Today will be

Awesome reality

And only the 'best'

Just forget the rest

Would make it’s way

This special day

To my bubbling pot

So delicious and hot

So off I trot

To the veggie plot

I make my stand

Trusty trowel in hand

At the end of the row

Of the seeds I did sow

It’s an emotional sight

A cooks delight

A Parsnip leaf

Now that’s a relief

Cos under the soil

I’ll dig and toil

And there I’ll see

Tasty parsnip for me

Digging on down

I begin to frown

The parsnip’s stuck tight

This just ain’t right

My trowels been beaten

It’s started to weaken

Only one thing I can do

To save my stew

‘Nick’ I shout - I need a man

Please, please see if you can

With your spade so big

I want you to dig

You need to go deep

And the rewards we’ll reap

It’s BIG you shout

Huge there’s no doubt

The pace is slow

As deeper you go

Then eureka I yell

You’ve done so well

At last he’s out

There is no doubt

It’s a parsnip alright

But what a sight

Wow it’s massive size

Should earn me a prize

Two hands I need

Oh what a feed

They’ll be parsnip stew

For a day or two

Maybe parsnip pie

That’s one I’ll try

Parsnip tea

Umm - we’ll see

Yippee it’s parsnips galore

A delicious taste I love and adore!

OMGosh, Lesley! That is one fine parsnip. My Mother loved parsnips and they are not easy to find here where I live. About once a year we can get them in a grocery store. I must admit I have never bought or eaten one, but Mama said they are so good in stews. Do you have to parboil them first? You should do a recipe hub for stew with parsnips in it so I can learn how to prepare them. I make a good beef stew -- would they go well in that?

Loved your hub, voted UP Useful Interesting Awesome

Love the parsnip...an unusual taste. It must have been fun to say all that in a poem. I had fun reading it! I have never put it in stew...sounds like a winner.

Up, funny and awesome

I have parsnip a few times but never really buy it for home cooking. I hear it has a lot of good health benefits. Maybe you could post a couple of recipes for parsnip and how to cook it. Does it have to be peeled? Voted Interesting and up.

But when I need a tip, I’m heading over on a ship, don’t mean to be flip, ok, Mike get a grip. That is might fine parsnip. Fun poem, brought a smile. What time is dinner being served?
