Mowgli – Racing Through the Jungle

Mowgli had it all

The love of wife Anshra

A five year old son named Tanid

He’d stayed and lived in the village

To where his jungle friends led him

He had the best of both worlds

He was assistant to the Village Elder

Led tourists through the jungle

On a river boat

Anshra had doubted his sanity

The day he’d asked her to picnic

In a clearing just before the jungle

He wanted Baloo to meet her

Now Baloo had remained a tried and true friend

He played with Tanid when they picnicked

And floated him upon his belly

Like he’d done with his father long ago

When Mowgli’s river tours went by

Oh, my, oh my

The tourists laughed and were delighted

Baloo would wave and dance

And give them all a thrill

Now Mowgli lay upon his straw mat

Pleased that it was Sunday

He’d quite a bad head

As yesterday the villagers

Had celebrated the Elder’s birthday

Awaiting the smells of Anshra’s cooking

He frowned something was missing

Suddenly his wife

Was tugging at his shoulder

He opened one bleary eye

”Wassup?” was all he managed

Anshra shouted,”Tanid’s gone into the jungle!”

Mowgli sat up and realized

The missing element

Was his son who always snuggled with dad

In the early morning light

He was five and he was brave

He’d left a scribbled note

This stated, “Wanna live like dad did.”

Mowgli wasn’t worried

He strapped on his belt and took his hunting knife

Told Anshra not to worry

That his jungle friends would care for him

And then off he went

Now Mowgli figured that Tanid had gone

To be with his now best buddy

Good ole’ Baloo

So stepping into the jungle

Down he went to the river spot

Where Baloo loved to swim

Seeing no one there Mowgli frowned

He wondered what was up

It was here that Akela

The leader of the wolf pack

Among which Mowgli was raised

Came running up to him

He gazed at Mowgli

And in his face he noticed the man-cub

That he had once been

Akela informed him

He’d been heading toward the village

To see if he could spot Mowgli

Old as he was he was still angry

Shere Kahn had shown up

He was bent on revenge

Mowgli, his family and the whole man village

Mowgli had now two thoughts

One for his family and one for his friends

Akela promised to have the wolf pack

Search for Shere Khan

While keeping a look out for Tanid

Mowgli raced back to the village

He alerted the Elder of possible tiger attack

He took the bugle they used for alarm

He’d bugle from the jungle

If help was needed

For him and his son

The villagers would be at the ready

To shoot Shere Khan at sight

Off Mowgli raced once more

This time he didn’t stop until he saw

Sly Kaa’s coils hanging from a tree

Carefully and with great care

Mowgli examined them one and all

Kaa being quite ticklish

Had begun to snicker

If only Mowgli had let go at that moment

As it was Kaa suddenly unwound all the way

He fell and wrapped himself about Mowgli’s head

Right over his eyes

Taken aback Mowgli tried to pull Kaa off

It was at this moment that Bagheera

Ran right into them

Suddenly Mowgli lost his balance

Instead of hitting the ground

They went spinning into space

Mowgli, Kaa and Bagheera

Careening down a sharp incline

Bagheera realized that Mowgli was the now grown man cub

He thought in panic

That his now old and painful bones

Were about to be really jarred

Kaa hissed and tightened his hold on Mowgli’s head

Suddenly their flight stopped

Just like that like hitting a brick wall

For a moment there was silence

Then Bagheera dared to open one eye

Holding them back was Baloo

It was one of those times

The panther was glad to see this silly bear

They were nearly at the bottom

Managed to untangle quite well

Seeing his pal Mowgli felt fear strike him

Tanid wasn’t there

Baloo had been berry picking

Far from his usual places

Just to see what was about

Kaa quite bent up from the fall

Promisssed to search for Tanid

From up in the trees

And painfully slithered away

Bagheera winced now he’d have to help once again

But a man cub in the jungle was a man cub in the jungle

And it was no place for him

So he set off to find Colonel Hathi and his elephant patrol

Promised to catch up to them later

That left Mowgli and Baloo

Now Baloo was thrilled to see his friend

But Mowgli reminded him that they had to hurry

For pretty soon Tanid may be Shere Khan’s dinner

Remembering Mowgli’s days in the jungle

Both of them headed toward King Louis’

New orangutan retreat

On the way they were stopped by three vultures

“Where you going?”” What ‘cha doing?” They wanted to know

Hearing about little Tanid

They said they’d keep a look out

Meanwhile sounds of reggae music could be heard

For King Louis it was party time again

Baloo lead the way

Boasting how he and King Louis were friends now

The orangutans had built a huge temple

There were burning torches everywhere

From matches they’d steal from the man village

Entering the gates was a sight to see

King Louis and Tanid doing a jolly dance

The boy was laughing and so very happy

Just then King Louis saw Mowgli

His face became angry

He informed them the new man cub

Was now one of them

Tanid seeing his dad

Ran to him gleefully

But before the orangutans could give chase

Bagheera ran through the gate

Shouting that Shere Khan was on the way

The orangutans and King Louis scattered every which way

Baloo began to box the air

Mowgli told the bear

To take Tanid and had for the river

It was then that he blew the bugle

Loud and clear

Before Shere Khan made his appearance

In paraded Colonel Hathi’s elephant patrol

Mowgli grabbed a torch

As the villagers went racing through the jungle

Shere Khan appeared

Eyes narrowed, snarling claws flailing

He headed toward Mowgli like a freight train

Before Mowgli could react he was upon him

The torch went flying

Bagheera decided to let fate take over

He jumped on top of the angry tiger

At this moment the elephant patrol

Each grabbed up a torch

And went in for the attack

Sheer Khan’s tail felt the flames first

He bucked and Bagheera went flying off

He rolled around stunned

Mowgli was badly scratched

But otherwise unharmed

The crazed tiger roared

While the elephants

Held him in a circle of torches

That was when the villagers arrived

The elephants stepped back

Guns blazed and Shere Khan fell dead

It was then that the villagers realized

The jungle animals could be friends

Mowgli became owner

Of the Jungle Nature Park

Where his friends could live safely and in peace

Tourists came by the dozens

To see the antics of King Louis and his orangutans

They loved to entertain

Baloo was a joy to watch

Especially when he went floating by

With Tanid on his belly

Waving to all who stood by

Even Bagheera and Kaa let themselves be admired

And at least once a day

Colonel Hathi and his elephant patrol

Would parade by

I can picture this story written on the walls of a ride at Disneyland. The story progresses as you move up the line, and you're off to save Tanid! Interesting, up, and sharing
