My Freezing Fingers - A Poem

My freezing fingers

they can't feel

your face

they once could touch

My freezing fingers

they can't touch

your lips

they once could feel

My freezing fingers

they belong

to someone else right now

something else

that they can't feel

that they can't touch

the way they once could do

How can I warm

my freeezing fingers

since you now are gone?

Will they ever

feel the warmth?

Will they ever

feel and touch

the way they

felt and touched

you?

Your face is fading

Your lips get cold

My fingers

they keep freezing

They can't feel anything anymore

They can't touch anything anymore

My fingers

they are freezing

until the day

your face

and

your lips

return to me

Tomorrow my fingers reach out

to touch you and feel you

but you are not there

You are not there

You are not here

You

It's just me

alone

with my freezing fingers

Thanks DDE, I got inspired by the cold weather we have right now. The photos are from last winter.

Made, you mention your (or someone's) freezing fingers, but not a cold heart. That's a good thing! Grab a hot cup of cocoa to warm up your fingers. The one to hold your warm heart in his is out there somewhere...

bravewarrior, a hot cup of cocoa would be nice. I'm glad to have man in my life, who is warming my freezing fingers. Thanks for stopping by to leave a nice comment.

Hi Bill, this isn't the best poem I've written, but this painfully cold weather we have right now deserves a poem, LOL! Thanks!

This is so expressive and gets my mind wondering and wandering because you've wed the concrete (the cold and icyness) with the intangible so well. Voting way up.

Losing someone you love is hard, living without their touch is harder. You brought these emotions to life in a very creative way, it's a great poem.

Wonderful Poem. I could feel the cold and loneliness. But then to me cold is loneliness. I really did enjoy reading this.

Made,

"…my freezing fingers…"

Your poem picks out an emotion that stiffens in all of us when it comes to

loss. I like the different pictures of the shapes of

frozen limbs and branches viewed from the road, above, below, nice.

I took the time to read and re-read.

As you write,

"…can't…"

"…belong…"

Trees seem to just bear the cold, melt in warmth, and blossom in due season.

I know your freezing fingers belong somewhere and they can remain despite your loss.

Interesting poem, I will come back to it again.

Great poem! When it's freezing outside, it can be very painful, especially to one's fingers and one's heart without that one to keep one warm for sure. Amazing photos too!

Up and more and sharing.

Blessings, Faith Reaper

I like the metaphor "freezing fingers." Your lovely poem reveals deepness - emotionally. Beautiful photos of the "freezing trees."

Up and will share. - Audrey
