My Greatest Rival, Me

My Greatest Rival, Me

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

Impaled upon my dark intent,

no lessons learned no pain relent.

I clamber for my balance make,

my suffering in kind relate.

To decisions made and results undone,

my deluded mind unrelenting run.

From reality I read as masked,

the mask my denial of my precious heart.

Between self-denial and visions veiled,

I am but fodder for my breath inhaled.

I feel invested in false betrayals,

the wayward path of no detail,

grasping for a hold on life,

above the fog of human strife.

Though lost for long I search for light,

a resounding flame in dark of night.

I channel truth within my brain,

now seen as reflection a past insane.

Clung to thoughts and soulless haunts,

I forward move in manner of sorts,

aware of my addiction cold,

disrupt my path and problems old.

Now I see the steps of gain,

outside my small and addled brain,

searching truth is lost to will,

when all along its within me still.

I am my greatest rival.

This is very true. Our closest, stiff competition is ourselves.

This is classic, Sir Tony!

All our life we are in illusion and delusion, and never know we are own rival. Beautiful poetry.
