My Greatest Valentine

My greatest Valentine

As with any girl I know

That was my daddy

The hero of my heart

My greatest Valentine

Was no Rock Hudson, no Cary Grant or even Gary Cooper

But he had me heart and soul

Every smile so precious

My greatest Valentine

Might not have been Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra or even Bruce Springsteen

But he was the apple of my eye

I loved him do or die

My greatest Valentine

Had me from the word go

I would always tell him so

He was the hero of my heart

My greatest Valentine

Made me so glad

When we were just the two of us

And the world was ours

My greatest Valentine

Made my heart beat faster

Every time we were together

Just my daddy and me

There weren’t any moments

That didn’t make memories

Me and my greatest Valentine

My daddy the hero of my heart

Happy Valentine’s Day and thank you for the best 10 years of my young life

Beautiful poem. It makes me miss my father, who lives 1500 miles away from me and who was my absolute hero and best buddy when I was a kid. We did everything together, and I would be lost without him if he was gone.

I still call my Dad, Daddy, whenever I mention him to someone! He died when I was in my twenties and I remember feeling jealous when I saw someone my age with who I imagined was their dad. I just wanted to tell them to appreciate him so much while he is here. He was only 52 when he died. Thanks you for the lovely words, Betty

I am sorry for those who have lost their fathers. I can't even think about that situation withtout my heart breaking. I thought I was going to lose him a few years ago when one of his heart valves ruptured. It was a nightmare couple of days waiting for him to go into surgery and recover. Now he is healthier then ever and I am so glad that even though he is far away, I can still speak with him on the phone and over Skype. I will cherish those times forever.

Happy Valentine's Day...

Dear Friend,

You are so blessed to have had a Daddy that you loved so much, loving you just as much and being his daddy's girl. It is every girls dream to be able to lovingly put their arms around their daddy's neck or sit in their lap as they hold them tight. A daddy forms the women she will become and how she relates to men. The job of a father is one of the most important ones in the world. Thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute.

Gypsy, a wonderful valentine poem, a girl's daddy is the first love that every other man must live up to, your dad must have been a very special man. Your love shines bright in this poem.

Glad you enjoyed this Leslie. It's kinda tough when you lose a dad when you're still so small. Being only 10 I always wished I had known him when I was much older. Learning his wisdom so to say. But I'm happy for the time we had.

Glad you enjoyed my tribute to my dad Sunnie. You're right every little girl should have wonderful and loving daddy.

Glad you enjoyed this tobusiness. Yes, my dad was a terrific man.

They sure are Shauna.

Glad you enjoyed this Wayne. Wish my dad could be around to read my poetry. Being a poet himself he would have been proud. However I'm sure he knows that even from heaven above.

Thank you for your nice comment xstatic. I do believe that he's watching over me and that he is proud of all I've accomplished.

Glad you enjoyed my tribute to my dad Laurinzo.

Glad you enjoyed this Archa.

Glad you enjoyed my tribute and video Ruby Rose.

This struck a chord with me, especially because I was feeling kind of blue since my mom reminded me today that my dad has been gone 50 years ago this week. I have been looking at some old photos of him. I was only 6 years old when he died, and he will always be Daddy to me. He will always remain the perfect man in my memory.

Gypsy Rose Lee profile image

Gypsy Rose Lee 3 years ago from Riga, Latvia Author

Sherry I sympathize. I thought losing my dad at 10 was too young but at 6 it can be unbearable. The statistics are always in my mind this year it will be 46 years since my dad died in 1967 and this April he would have been 108. So the memories remain but what we can find comfort in is that our dads never really leave us. They are always close by and will watch over us until we meet again. Hugs.
