My Haunted Heart

Haunted

You haunt my halls
with memories...
ones that pinch
and ones that please.
How is it love
transcends decrees...
and lives to haunt my halls?

It seems so clear,
like yesterday...
a reverie of
children's play
that burned to ash
and slipped away,
yet, still it seems so clear.

In spite of all
that came to pass,
where burnished gold
turned tarnished brass,
our mirror dulled
into stained glass,
yes, in spite of all.

A heart so true
can take so much
but a bond transformed
into a crutch
will wither when
demands, as such,
break a heart so true.

You haunt my halls
with memories...
ones that ache
and ones that please.
How is it love
transcends decrees...
and lives to haunt my halls?

My hauls are haunted so vividly with memories, I understand the feeling felt here as your laid pen to pad. Extremely poignant and revealing, love hurts. Hugs

Another brilliant poem no-clue. Full of emotion and feeling. It brought back all the thoughts I had about my divorce, and how I felt so completely lost and at fault. Sending hugs your way. x

MO, thank you. Them memories got triggered and have played all day. They get only today...tomorrow is a new day and I am not entertaining ghosts tomorrow!

i like the writing style of this, and how you repeat the first and last lines of each stanza, i liked this line the best

"In spite of all

that came to pass,

where burnished gold

turned tarnished brass,

our mirror dulled

into stained glass,

yes, in spite of all."

Again, thanks, Norma! This piece is part of a serious attempt to exorcize a particular ghost, if you will, whose memories linger...its getting better, slowly!

So deep and emotional, memories are not easy, time is one of the means that makes them a little less sharp...
