Irish mom Scots dad.............poetry

Dad always said all the blame was to your
"Irish temper "as you glared at him and snickered aloud

And you would say yes but why not blame
your "Scottish moods" mean and proud

And we like all kids would look from one
parent to the other

Where's it gonna go next we wondered
Oh Brother !

I guess if it wasn't for that ethnic mix
we would not be who we are

Those Scots and the Irish Islands
so close and yet so far

Could say you loved each other to the very
ends for all love is worth

But maybe that's how far apart those islands should be
on opposite sides of the earth !

I wonder ...Is that what magnets are made from
those Scots-Irish lovers

Cause that's how they "got along " like opposing poles
like my Father and Mothers

Ha ha ha....well the Scots and the Irish should get on they both Celtic.... They both hate the English. You should come and visit Ireland. More than anyone on hubpages I follow you are in a total different zone altogether. Why did they move to where you are.... Don't tell me the potatoe famine..... That of course was the fault of the English.

Hello Joy , I assume so ,the famine , but who can lay fault . Either way they moved to an area of Vermont in New England that's called "The Irish settlements ", central Vermont that is , where my great and grand parents farmed in the last two centuries . My mothers Irish curse - to marry the Scotsman ,me thinks ! LOL , Thank you for this inspiration .

Fascinating self-survey, Ed! Yes, quite celtic. My George's background was also celtic in origin, Scottish and Welsh.

My mother had the 'British Isles' combo as she called it, Scottish (Barclay), English (Russell) and Irish (Smith), within herself, but their traits imbued her with a fierce, unharnessed energy from her childhood to her last breath, rather than in moods or temper. She expressed herself in art and creativity. She wasn't so much 'even-tempered'. She just had no temper in the usual sense, though she sometimes said that her father told her that if someone dumped a cup of water on her, to dump a pitcher-ful on the person, to which she'd say that she would dump a washtub full on the tormentor, all quite dispassionate. Just justice. haha. I never saw her make good on that, though. She was probably too swift for anyone to catch up with her! Besides she was too tender-hearted. She really couldn't hurt a fly.

Her contrast was my dad's Swiss, Dutch and German combo, with its passionate intensity, left-brained logic, slow & careful pace, soft heart & generosity! He loved her passionately and she was a good wife & partner. That magnetic attraction, as you say. Opposite poles conjoined by love and commitment. By the time I was born, his hot temper had tamed down. He'd 'mellowed', as they call that phenomenon.

I can see & feel much of each of them in myself. . . of course. The last of their 4 combinations! ;-)

So sad that every one moved from Ireland...... Thousands of people every year visit The Emerald Isle looking for connections to the past. Any one seen the Rose Of Tralee?????????????

You really should. My son lives in Florida.... According to some people who have visited us, they feel complete after one visit.... But always want to return. Everyone is an artist here.

Just wondering

I don't really know to press the right buttons on here, to make money.... How about if I wrote some articles of attracting second generation Americans over to Ireland would you help me by at least reading..... It would be great practice for me. I could even contact local places of interest telling them I am a free lance writer and tell them about my idea.
