My Life is a Fairy Tale

Dress Up

My life is a fairy tale, believe me its true

My princesses drag me to every ball too.

Spinning in taffeta skirts and in chiffon gowns

Wearing sparkly golden and bejeweled crowns.

In heels cut for a queen and with lips painted red

We hurried to meet time the invitation said.

Palace
Palace | Source

Spinning wheels a horse drawn carriage all strewn with lace

Horses’ prancing that kept perfect melodic pace.

At palace we stood in awed stare from the oak door

At clothing people of our kingdom wore.

Strings, trumpets, bells and horns played a lively dance tune

We knew as we danced the party would end too soon.

Thief
Thief | Source

While on our way home our carriage broke down

Thieves jumped from the wood and stole my dear’s crown.

Fairies flitted after thieves through the night

The lighted wings of glitter quite the site.

The stir caused our horses to run astray

We wanted home but did not know the way.

Fairy Godmother
Fairy Godmother | Source

A miniature tornado of leaves and dust swirled

Then we were looking at a woman the size of small girl.

“Get in the funnel and away we will go,

My special magic wind the way home does know.”

My princesses and I jumped in real fast

Wanting to be on our way home at last.

Messy Bessy! Quit playing with the kids and get to cleaning.

The time had been fun but it was the end

My princesses knew I had socks to mend

A sink full of dishes to wash and dry

A floor covered in crumbs of meals gone by.

I’m not sad to see all the fun times go

The ball will be back same time tomorrow.

Awesome poem. I don't usually read long poems unless they flow well, and yours really does.

Ardie profile image

King Philip, nice to see you! I believe in happy endings too. Sometimes we just have to make the magic work ourselves :D

Cardisa, I have three - how lucky am I to be so blessed?! All girls and all as sweet as can be. Thanks for reading

Ghaelach - wouldn't you feel a bit out of place amongst all us women?! If that is alright with you then come on down! Dont forget to wear your feathered hat and tie :)

Eddy! Great to see you :) 1130...I'll put on some water and have sandwiches ready. It WILL be a wild event!

Thanks rj, thats very sweet of you to say. I'll be honest and admit that I rewrote is about 5 times trying to get a stady tempo ;) Dont tell though

Thanks! That is a lovely comment coming from such an accomplished poet as yourself :D

Ghaelach 5 years ago

Ardie, Just a feathered hat and tie?? I wouldn't want to outdress the girls so i think I'll wear my fig-leaf as well if that's OK with you and the girls!!

LOL Ghaelach

Ardie profile image

Ardie 5 years ago from Neverland Author

Bwahahah!!! Ghaelach, too too funny :D You might want the fig leaf with all us women staring at you as you enter the ball

Ghaelach 5 years ago

Ardie, you say "As i enter the ball".

Now are we going dancing or are we off to a Football game??

Ardie profile image

Ardie 5 years ago from Neverland Author

You're killing me here. I tell you what - you can be the entertainment of the ball (dance!). And you can wear whatever you choose since it will be your show :D

Ghaelach 5 years ago

Hey Ardie me an entertainer and putting on a show. I don't really look like one of your famous "Californian Dream Boys" you my say I look more like a "Little Imp" well that's what my mother used to call me, bless her cotton socks. Also you wouldn't want me spoiling your night out on the town, and besides it's your party and i'm an invited guest (hopefully).

LOL Ghaelach

Darn wouldn't you know it? I missed it didn't I. I could say, "I'm late, I'm late for a very important date."

But the phrase, "You snooze, you lose", might be more appropriate. My, how I wish I didn't have to sleep!

Ardie profile image

This is very nice Ardie. Its so playful and fun to read I could definitely see this in a children's book. Well done :)

Ardie profile image

Ardie 5 years ago from Neverland Author

Why thank you Eman!! That compliment means a lot to me since I did indeed write it for my 3 daughters :D They loved it so much they ask me to read it to them at bedtime - how cute is that?

And it inspired them to write poems...so THIS little poem has now become my favorite, most meaningful hub.

That's amazing Ardie for this poem to inspire your own children to write I mean honestly it doesn't get better than that. The poem is so fun and warm i think i will be reading this to my niece too. :)

Wow Eman THAT is the best compliment I've ever been given. I hope your niece enjoys the poem!!

I liked this Ardie, its breezy and optimistic with a dash of magic too. Reminded some of Cinderella. All work and no palace parties makes us dull folk doesn't it!

Ardie profile image

Ardie 5 years ago from Neverland Author

Oh thank you Alastar. Everyone needs to find a little magic in life :) When my daughters play dress up they do take their cues from the Disney movies...I will admit! I'll also admit that I have some days when the work is ignored and I play all day - but my house never looks like that picture above....eeew

Hi Martie :) some days are harder than others. Some days I spend all afternoon on the computer playing and other afternoons I'm shuttling back and forth between three schools and cleaning like mad. But I love my play breaks with the kiddos.

Aaw thanks RHwife! And look at your adorable little profile pic :) I remember back in high school I wanted to write and illustrate childrens books. But doesnt everyone want to do that? Maybe I can just make three small books - one for each of my daughters.
