Gazing upon the river

With the trees reflected

In the crystal clear water

I see Life

I see my life

My life has flowed

Like a river

Twisting and turning,

Never knowing

What’s around the bend

Each turn holds a discovery

Each twist

A challenge

There are scars I’ve gained

Along the river of Life

But they don’t stop the flow

Rather they add texture to the

Beauty that is reflected

In each ripple,

As are the blue skies

And golden sunlight

The scars add substance

And strength of character

They offer a foundation

For beauty and fortitude

To hold onto

The river holds

Reflections of my Life

To be shared

And never forgotten

Sha,

I love my scars now...just " as every picture tells a story"... so does every scar...

The perspective of your scars is very soothing to me...wise, insightful, flowing, yet grounded. This is a beautiful reflection. Love, Maria

Transposing life to a river was done really skillfully. Your words flowed freely just like that river, and you done a beautiful job of describing how adversity appears but can be overcome and new strength found.

Inspiring and beautiful.

Anna, life is beautiful if we are willing to learn from our mistakes and wear our scars with pride. You totally got where I was going with this. For that I salute you!

Dreamseeker, your comment is much appreciated. Without the scars we gain thru life, we wouldn't be who we are today.

Thank you, Minnetonka!

Ruby, you hit the nail on the head!

Linda, you're too sweet . Backatch my friend!

Rasma, I think I understand what you mean. Time goes by too rapidly sometimes.

Shauna - You are a wonderful poet. I so enjoyed the many layers of symbolism. The scars we attain throughout life are painful yet sometimes, necessary.

Excellent Shauna - I am voting up and sharing

Love, Beckie XO

bravewarrior profile image

bravewarrior 3 years ago from Central Florida Author

Beckie, your approval means the world to me! Life without scars means no lessons have been learned. Life is a journey with lessons lying within each twist we come upon. We learn from them and should bear the scars we gain along the way proudly. They ain't (I know that's bad English; I'm making a point) no BOTOX for those kind of lines and I hope no one feels the need to cover them up!

This is beautiful Brave. I especially like the part where you say, "The scars add substance, And strength of character." Yes indeed. Once someone told me that when we are born, our hearts are like soft clay. By the time we are older, it is molded by all of our experiences. The clay hardens with the scars.

bravewarrior profile image

bravewarrior 3 years ago from Central Florida Author

That was a wise person indeed, Crafty. I'm glad you enjoyed this. It's one of my personal favorites. It was actually inspired by a picture prompt billybuc had in one of his Artistry With Words post. He's an awesome mentor. I highly recommend you follow his blog if you don't already.

What a lovely poem vibrating with such affinity with mother nature. Shauna, this is a lovely comparison between the turns and twists of river with those of our own life. A very beautiful expression indeed !

bravewarrior profile image

bravewarrior 2 years ago from Central Florida Author

Why, thank you Harishprasad! It's one of the latest I've written. I don't seem to write as much poetry as I once did. I've sort of moved on to fiction. Poetry comes to me when I least expect it, so I'm sure there will be more to come.

Lisa, what would life be without twists and turns? They make us stronger and help us determine who we are and where we want to go in life.
