My Stan

My Stan,

Never my father, but always my dad.

On a brighter day when the sun doth shine,

thoughts of you come to mind, and

do you remember the day as if only yesterday,

like I do when you went away?

You closed the door and didn’t look behind,

you never felt what I felt inside, Oh how

life can be grim, but you made me laugh.

You raised my spirits with all that you have,

dark Blue eyes amongst that greying hair,

you were my star, in my heart to share,

whilst you lived, I feared no ill

but now you are gone, my life is still

a sad affair were no one can fill the gap,

No one can reach those memories I still have.

Of a young man whom I was proud to know,

his crowning glory was his red haired that showed

an indifference to temper that never cared,

whatever I did wrong as a child you bared.

Age descends in the twinkle of an eye,

and takes with it a passion for life.

But not with you my love, you stayed faithful and true

I will be forever your daughter through and through.

Stan was never my paternal father, but he was the best dad I could ever have wished for.My life is so much sadder now that he is gone, but for a brief while I knew a dad’s true love.

Dearest mar, thank you my beautiful friend. I was blessed every day that I spent in my Stan's company, he was a beautiful, kind and generous person. Despite losing his wife, my Auntie Jayne, this man never lost the ability to love everyone he ever met. I think that indirectly I learnt a great deal from him. He was the best dad in the world.

Annette,

This touches me deep in my soul, as your writing always does. I know Stan is aware of this tribute and loves you all the more for remembering him in this poignant manner.

Voted UP & AB... like you. With love, mar.

Stan loved us all, we were all his family and that meant the world to him. You know how I worshipped him and my life will never have the same meaning when I remember his generosity and kindness to us all. He truly was the best dad a girl ever had. Thank you for sharing my memoires.

As someone who was touched by Stan too, I can truly say he loved you like no other, always checking you were ok and consoling you when things were not. Beautiful tribute!

Hi my dear friend Ken, A man is nothing other than blood, flesh and bones. But his wisdom and heart makes him truly beautiful like My Stan was. You are an inspiration too Ken. Only your humble soul doesn't know it just yet. People come from all walks of life and only by good grace do they leave an impression. Thank you for your lovely comment. x

I never really had a real Dad in my life, in his place were just monsters my ma chose to live with and the children inherited her grief and abuse alongside her. Although fortunately for me at 15 an angel appeared in my path and he became the Dad I never had and always needed.

I to miss him so, he taught me most everything I know today and brought out the artistic side of me, which now today I am always amused that he is now my Muse. Lovely poem of tribute to a blue eyed boy/man who you had a load of respect for and loved. I am happy you had him in your life. Be blessed that you have fond memories. Peace and blessing to you from me.

Thank you all for supporting my memories of a beautiful, charming, decent man. Everyone who met him loved him deeply. He always had a friendly word for every body and when he lived with me for the last 12 years of his life, the kettle was never turned off and he loved to be the chief brew (tea) maker. I am sure he is still the chief brewer in heaven lol xxx

drjb thank you for your lovely comment. Stan and I loved each other deeply, and the lack of blood relation didn't matter. He was my dad and I his daughter. I have so many happy memoires and so does my son, who knew him for eight years as his granda. x

Mike you charmer you, a whistle. My goodness it is a long time since this old gal got a whistle, so I graciously accept even thou I was only 22. It is usually said that a daughter is always the apple of her father's eye and I was no exception. My Stan was my father true and true with or without blood. In this case no one else mattered. xx

Hi Sunnie, my dear sweet friend. My Stan was a gentleman in all manner of ways. He lived his life for others and everyone who ever met him immediately felt his warmth and support. I owe him so much of my character, and he it totally irreplaceable. I still grieve for him after all these years (1999). He was not my father but I am his daughter and so proud to be so.xx

Hello thebluestar, this is a lovingly portrayed image of your feelings for Stan, your Father figure. Any daughter who praises her Father is 'Tops' in my book. And did you hear me whistle when I saw your picture?

I am sure you were touched. Some people effect our lives in remarkable ways and they aren't even aware of it.

Wonderful tribute to a true dad. I too had a step dad that was the world to me. He hurt my mom and I never quite forgave him but I never forgot his love.

Dear Net,

Such a loving tribute..brought a lump to my throat..so happy you had such a dad in your life..blood does not always mean good sometimes the best dad's are the ones who have stepped up to take the job that others did not want. I loved this..I too have a Stan and would not trade him for the world..

Much love,

Sunnie

Hi femme, my Stan was truly a gentleman, and although his life was full of disaster and pain, he loved his fellow human being unconditionally. Thank you for stopping by to celebrate his memory with me. x

bluestar - what a wonderful tribute!!

Thankfully, family is not only defined by blood. :)

This is beautiful. I think any father (who cares about being a father) would be proud to know they left such a legacy in the heart of their young.
