Lunar and Solar Eclipses Explained
A lunar eclipse occurs when the earth is between the moon and the sun. In this position the earth is blocking the light from the sun and a person looking at the moon could imagine that the moon has disappeared. The moon appears to have vanished but only for as long as the earth is in the way. When the earth get out of the way the light from the sun reaches the moon again and it reappears. A solar eclipse occurs when the moon blocks or partially blocks the light from the sun reaching the earth.
Skoll and Hati pursue the Sun and Moon
Viking Mythology and Eclipses
In Viking mythology Skoll and Hati are two wolves. They chase after the sun and the moon. The Vikings believed when the wolves caught the sun or moon the light went out. To save the light the Vikings made as much noise as possible to distract the wolves so the sun or moon could escape. So every time there was an eclipse you could hear the Vikings howl like wolves until the light returned.
Eclipses of Me by Spirit Whisperer
Run; if you like, but why not trust?
You know you run because you must.
It is your nature to run and mine to chase.
Why so serious and so involved as is always the case?
Isn’t this a game we agreed to play?
Don’t you remember? It is simply the way.
Why look so afraid when I come near?
I play my role so what is there to fear?
Remember we agreed that this is play.
As was the plan I chase you night and day.
Can’t you hear for all the noise?
Hear me if you can listen to my voice.
I am you and you are me.
Light and day I play for you to see.
I am we.
