Night Riding - A Farewell Poem
Night riding
Through the suburbs
Darkness
Our ill-intentioned friend.
Black flora
In the national park
Refuge
In the stories we'd tell.
We were outrun when we knew
That what we thought was one mind in two
Was two needs being met;
Was our greatest regret.
Night riding.
At the water's edge
Our tears
Were our apology.
Our tears were our farewell.
We were outrun when we knew
That what we thought was one mind in two
Was two needs being met;
Was our greatest regret.
My greatest regret.
