No Greater Love ~ An Easter Tribute

No Greater Love

A simple man
of humble stock,
a shepherd come
to claim his flock.

He came to save
a dying world,
to accusations
falsely hurled.

He challenged all
that men held dear
addressed the heart
of hate and fear.

He spoke of Love.
With a gentle touch,
He healed the sick,
the blind, and such.

He preached of God
and the soul of man...
mercy, repentance,
and the Father's Plan.

He loved the lost
and gave His life
to save them from
sin's pain and strife.

They nailed Him to
a piece of wood
and mocked Him as
they watched and stood.

Yet He absolved
them all their due...
"Forgive them, Father!
They know not who."

And gave His Life
Up on that tree
that all the captives
be set free.

And from the tomb
where He was laid,
He conquered death,
The debt was paid.

And rose again
to take His Place,
having paid
for Saving Grace.

No greater love
mankind shall see
than Jesus Christ
of Galilee...

who gave His Life
to pay the cost
and save the souls
of all the lost.

I had to read this poem and read it again for the tears stinging my eyes. I am not religous and have my moments where I question my faith, but this read was very powerful and emotional for me. Beautiful x

star, I am very happy about your response! I am not a religious person either, but I am deeply spiritual. I wrestle with my faith, believe it or not! My relationship with my God, although it is stronger and more sound today than ever before, has been a tumultuous one, at best. But I would rather face life each day with than without faith...that has been learned from trial and error. Without my faith, life is pretty pointless and moot, for me! Thank you, my friend, for being you and being here! Happy Easter and Love!

mum, I thank you for your visit, and am happy this little tribute was thought-provoking...I am not "religious" per se, but deeply spiritual, and I believe with all my heart and soul. I question much, but have experienced much also and have no doubt that there is a God above who loves us, truly, and I believe in His Son, Jesus, as well, which was the inspiration for this poem. I hope you had a wonderful Easter, and continue to keep you in my warmest thoughts and prayers! Hugs to you!

Ruby, I thank you, sincerely for your read and comment! I question alot about "Christianity" also but it has more to do with the humans that practice it than it does with the principles...there are many who profess the faith but do not live it. Things tend to get twisted by the "human critter", I hate to say. Anyway, hope you had a wonderful Easter. Hugs to you!

WillStarr, as always, I am thrilled by your comment! I am so grateful for that gift, that has been entrusted to me, and it is with joy that I share the words that come. Many times, as with this poem, I almost feel guilty claiming credit, for the words feel given. And I am grateful for you, My Friend...Rich blessings to you and yours!
