Tree of Life- Poem

I wrote this poem when I was on vacation. I was sitting outside in complete silence and noticed this beautiful tree. Luckily I had my notebook because these words just popped in my head! It is a poem about the tree yes; but, it is also about the confidence and pride that seems to be lacking in so many peoples lives.

Old and wise gnarled by age

Blow in the wind and calm thy rage

Mourn the passing of yet another day

And weep because things will never change

Standing proud with unwavering beauty

True to thyself with roots planted firmly

Knowledge unspoken

Vows unbroken

Limbs stretched reaching toward the sky

No reason to be insecure no reason to be shy

Watching the world unfold in all its glory -never a word

The secrets of life are kept safely inside- never to be heard

The sunset can be seen through those dancing leafs

As the sky turns purple, orange, and pink

Steadfast you stand upright you will stay

Because there truly is no other way

As the day passes into the still of night

And the moons glow is the only light

We look up in wonder- yet never see

The world as it was meant to be

Cleaner, Thank you so much for your comment, I am glad that you liked it! I agree with you, I seem to only be able to write poetry when it just flows out of me, I can not write it on demand! Thanks again for the comment!

Love this Ode to a Tree.

They truly are one of nature's gifts to humans.

Voted up across the board except for funny.

Isn't it fantastic when words begin to form while sitting alone under a tree? This is beautiful. I loved it...

I like the description of the tree, but I don't see the connection with people being braver. Are you saying they should be more like the tree?

Hi Phillydreamer, Thanks for your comment! I was basically saying that the characteristics that I saw in this tree are characteristics that I believe people should have. More specifically, Characteristics that I strive to have such as strength, honesty, courage, and confidence.

@Lisawilliamsj...You've spoken of the tree as a voice of Nature herself. And Nature speaks to mankind, always, as in some era he would listen more often.

Oh, if those old gnarly trees could talk........

They stand, guarding secrets through the ages.

I am fascinated by their resilience.

They take the thunderstorms of spring, and then summer's hot, arid days.

They are at the height of appearance in the fall with their colorful attire.

And, in their nakedness, they bear the ice and snow of the winter's eve.

They forget all the challenges of the previous year as they stand tall and

reveal their spring fashion .

You captured nature's characteristics beautifully.

This is a wonderful tribute to trees. Maybe, one day we will see, "the world as it was meant to be".

I like this quote and thought I would pass it along to you.

WOW DJ, thank you so much for this beautiful comment, and I love the quote! Interestingly, this is my favorite poem that I have ever written. I know that is not the best one I have written, but I have rarely been inspired as much as I was, when I wrote this. This was a different type of inspiration as well, one that did not come from a dark place, it came from a place of love and a deep connection to the earth. Thank you so much for stopping by, I always look forward to hearing from you!
