Of Wolves and Men................

Canis Lupus will you never learn.......will you
listen once more to the warnings
Stay away from the man at the edge
of the trapline in early mornings

Lobo .......you were here so long before
us did you dream that man would arrive
And that man would take you down
again .....that you might not survive

Run ...... run to places man won't
ever go again
Don't even watch behind you
for man is not your friend

The shepherds in montana the hunters
in carolina
One of them is gonna get you
as soon as they can find ya

As you gaze upon the pups as you forage
for your lifemate in tow
Don't forget that mankind knows his poisons
that you're mind will never know

I've been reading alot over the years about reintroducing wolves and am always reducing mans intent down to the "science". Poison baits , puppy loving zoo keepers , trappers , "nuisance" wolves , shotgun darts with drugs for disabling ! "Research" centers where more wolves stand looking out through chain link fencing than will ever be allowed to survive in the wild!....... I have mixed feelings about all of this . But the largest "mixed" feeling I have is for mankind itself. At what cost does political correctness allow us to screw with mother nature soo much ? And what specie awaits next in line ........ to be molested by mankind?

being a dog lover, this story appeals to my senses of sadness, these animals of such majesty deserve better. it is so wrong that they are are treated this way. where are all the groups that supposedly look out for natures creatures of the world. they are so full of it.

I often think there are far too few wolves and far too many humans populating this spinning blue sphere. We need to give them space.

I think the wolf is among the most awesome creatures in the wild. I love their songs which some refer to as howls. I sure wish that there was a hands off policy period on any wild animal.

I began to comment but left to make sure of my facts. I was right. I recalled reading not that long ago that some states allow hunting wolves in low flying airplanes, some low flying helicopters. I don't understand how these people can call themselves sportsmen. There's no 'thrill of the chase" here, and how can we be so arrogant as to determine how nature should be 'managed'. WE are the interlopers in the natural world, ever growing more hard-hearted to both nature and our fellow man. Sorry. Your poem, and obvious compassion and love for nature's creatures touched me and I remembered reading about so-called 'hunts' . These are intelligent and majestic creatures not put on this earth for man's 'sport'. Thank you for sharing this with us. I love your choice of photo with this.

Hello Christopher , yes my friend you have that right , who knows thouugh what the future holds. Maybe one day we'll have less human puppy mills and more wildlife. :-}

Hello DJuris , Yes you are right , a couple of states allow wolf lottery hunting , montana for one. And even wildlife specialists are darting and or killing wolves out of airplanes and choppers! Some states also have employee trappers who kill those that were once near extinction and now might kill a calf or a lamb . The irony of it is that most ranchers are using BLM land for cattle and sheep , yours and my land! These wolves are doing what they always have done .....eating !

This is simply brilliant. It's the age old question that no one seems to want to pay attention to the answer to. Happily, mankind is shrewd enough to prey upon many, many species - all at the same time - including his own! We're...talented..that way..sigh. Have you seen what the government is doing to the horses in colorado, nevada..etc?

so sad, that we are supposed to be caretakers of this planet, yet we are the one destroying it...
