Off The Grid (and back on again)

He never liked progress
Anything new always comes with a bill
You couldn’t even get him to talk about it
He’d say, “It’s my soul they’re trying to kill”

He never liked change
Anything new was worse than before
You couldn’t get him to think about it
He’d say, “It’s just something else for me to ignore”

He’s off the grid
But sometimes he gets back on
They don’t make it easy
To live life on your own
They say it’s progress
And you’re gonna’ fall behind
But when you’re off the grid
Who you are is what you will find

He never was trendy
The latest fashion was not his style
You couldn’t get him to wear it
He’d say, “It’ll die on the rack after while”

He’s off the grid
But sometimes he gets back on
They don’t make it easy
To live life on your own
They say it’s progress
And you’re gonna’ fall behind
But when you’re off the grid
Who you are is what you will find

You might not understand the heart of a loner
He’s not worried about keeping up with you
You might think he’s just jealous or broke
But he’s not part of the world you’re tied to

He’s off the grid
But sometimes he gets back on
They don’t make it easy
To live life on your own
They say it’s progress
And you’re gonna’ fall behind
But when you’re off the grid
Who you are is what you will find

This is specatacular! It's almost like I feel you writing this as you go! And I read that in your profile you write very quickly as well, I'm glad I'm not alone. Enjoy your day, I look forward to reading more and more of your works!

@Deborah - Thank you again! To me the grid is all the trendiness and slavery to the latest thing.

@a-mgillett - Hello and thank you for the kind remarks. I ran into my former best friend (still are but we ran together back in the early 90's but life took us into different directs - i.e. families) and he doesn't even text. So this was for him...

Interesting observations here. I know people like this and occasionally go "off the grid" as well. Your poetry has a real verve in it, real energy. I like that.

One of my biggest pet peeves - progress. Singing along!

@Sonya - Thank you for commenting. I wish I could go off the grid but I have bills to pay. I am off it from a "trendiness" standpoint. I'm out of that scene and I like that.

@Isadoras - Thank you for commenting. Yes sometimes progress is bad for us... and the environment.

@raciniwa - I think a different dimension or state of mind is what I am really talking about here as oppposed to living in a tent... I'm too soft for that! Ha....
