On Willoughby's Cliffs.......

The sun goes over the edge of the cliffs
just as the august evening strengthens
Mares tails and moisture trails follow the
wind as a mountain shadow lengthens

The moist smell of pines flow softly
out of the forest and ravines
Along the shore of the water the
waves message the promise of dreams

And I will sit here until darkness over comes
the day........a new night is cast
Where does the world go in the fall .... the
quiet days of summer cannot last

A surprise in the dark..... comes a rain
a soft cadence from the skies
I wrap myself deeper in the cool of
night and the fire slowly dies

August night turns slowly to september
day........my favorite time
In the spell of autumn I fall from
the end of summer ....but I don't mind

Changes happen ......like them or not
even for a rock like me
Changing seasons ...changing skies.....
as the new season sets me free

Very lovely. Not too long until September, where did the summer go? Thank you.

Indeed all things in nature must change--often into something lovelier than what was left behind. Yet soon enough it must start the cycle anew; is it not like this for everything in creation? You can see what your beautiful poem has inspired ahorseback. Thank you.

**the moist smell of pines flow softly

out of the forest and ravines**

I remember when I lived in Florida that I drove all night with the convertible top down so I could smell the pines in the early morning light. It was so rich and fragrant and I will never forget that amazing scent. You captured it well ahorseback.

Hyphenbird , Since I was a child watching my father work in the woodlands , I have loved the scent of pines , hemlock, firs. And as well , traveling in the west ,the redwoods , the ponderosas , And in the south! I remember all the men that my dad worked with all smelled the same! Pitch and sawdust , beer and brawn! lol. Lets go for a ride with the top down! We'll go into the sunset looking for all the woodlands!......Thank you Hyph!..:-}
