On my way home from work ....

The ghost like wisps of wind
speaking through the pine bows
A language all their own I wish I
knew what the wind knows

I had parked the truck under the
shade along the edge of the water
I won't be long though ...... I promise
and hey what does it matter

Rolled down the windows lean back
and close my eye's
Just for awhile just a while
the instant silence a surprise

The heat of summer can affect me that way
perhaps I fit better in this scene
With the calls of natures birds and
the wind so serene

After awhile I tune into these sounds and
they begin to speak
Lifting me from all mans trappings
and the delivery that I seek

Yes for awhile I break free of man
of humanity of all these human games
And just dream for a while in the
shade of the lost country lanes

Sleep for awhile..... wrestle away the tiredness
this eternal fatigue and stress
And then ........"well ,how was your day honey"?
....Oh , just okay "....but where , I'll not confess

I've actually done this a few times in these later years , I work for myself as a self employed builder , re modeler and carpenter and one of the advantages of my doing it this way is to be able to play with the hours of the day a bit more than having to do the 9 to 5 thing ! I am also bothered by the hot and humid weather . Especially in the heat of summer I may find myself wanting to just escape for an hour ..........care to Join me ?!

I really enjoy poems that show a little slice of someone's life, and this is one of them! Your weariness in the heat comes through.

Ed,

I was right there with you and it was beautiful! This is the epitome of reflection that I was speaking of. Something about letting yourself go and letting nature turn the world off for a minute can do wonders for your soul, as this has done for me :-)

Beautiful Ed!

Up and Awesome

This was just lovely! Nothing like letting nature surround you to wash away the cares of the day if even for a short nap. Up and beautiful votes.

Voted up and awesome. Loved this Ed. Yes, ready to join you. Love country lanes and shady spots in the summertime. You took me there with your poetic words. Passing this on.

Lovely poem - and how sensible to escape for a short time occasionally. It restores both the body and the soul.

Cat ! We have to don't we ! And so often we don't get that inner peace anywhere else ! But alone , with no interuptions , no one waiting or wanting . Just the sun for some and the shade for others . Thats it though isn't it "turn off the world " Love that !.......:-}

mmmmmm....i adore lost country roads, Cowboy..(sadly, with my sense of direction - even the ones that aren't supposed to be lost - ARE!) lol..

i adore texas, and i adore nature and i adore barefoot, and i adore peace..

i am not the least bit surprised that you create with your hands - it fits perfectly with who you are - or - who i perceive you to be through your writing, anyway!

Giddyup, time to get back to work..

lol

Hi Ed.

Well put together.

When over at our caravan/camping site I can sit under the pavilion and as you close my eyes and listen to the birds and other animal sounds.

Just got back yesterday and will be back over there before the end of next week, weather permitting.

Voted up and sharing.

Ed.....I could visualize as I read this interesting piece. I approve of us taking some alone and peaceful time, each day.....just to be silent and give the mind and body a moment....in a special place, where we feel comfort........Very nice, Ed...UP+++

Hey - Just wanted to let you know that I have been working some major overtime as of late, which is why it has taken me some time to respond to this awesome poem. I could completely relate to taking a break from the hustle of the day, enjoying the gifts Mother Nature bestows on us and taking the time to slow down and become aware of the beauty around me.

Your writing is superb and captures the pleasure of the moment completely.

Regards my talented friend.
