On the Edge of the Wind........

I was thinking tonight of old friends and
dark nights
Laughing out loud
breaking beer bottles
In the beach fires
and screaming into
the darkness
the summers of my
desperation......
There were girls or women who
for awhile stood close by .......
And yet .....what they left behind
was long lasting
Too long......
The friends are as long gone
as the lovers too
I miss the alcohol induced touching
the heat in our lips
and gentle touching
of our souls
And only now I'm beginning to
realize that being the one
still alive is somehow
a blessing
Such are the memories of youth
those that still return
on the edge of the wind

I too sometimes wish I could go back in time...but as time would have it...I am happy to be here in this moment.

Love it!

It took me back, too. Lovely, ahorseback, poignant is the right word, and true. I was a little wild and young and crazy, and I miss those days, that confidence in being young forever.

I never had a wild youth. My brother had major problems and that turned me in the opposite direction. But as far as remembering the past, I have to be careful to be in a good mood when I do this.Sometimes nostalgia can be dangerous, especially when you start thinking about what might have been.

Sometimes I mourn for my life's past. The carefree days. I was a free spirit (a little too free) But I love my life now (sigh). Great hub. Thank you for sharing ;)

I can certainly relate to this one, the crazy days of youth...

I don't remember when I was young. For some reason, I'm convinced it was the worst time of my life. Very poignant piece.

Hello Paradise , being a conflicted kind of guy , I was never truley happy with being wild and free. it just didn't "fit". I think I was always an old soul. Be well my friend.....:-}

I have to agree with Flora. For me, I have to be careful about waxing nostalgic too often and wondering what could have been. It sometimes bums me out big time. That said, I enjoyed your reminiscence and the memories it conjured up.

When asked, would you like to return to yesteryear, i can say loud and clear " No way ", but the thought of reincarnation is appealing to me, a second chance to get it right! Yea.

This one was so good I had to re-visit it. I wouldn't go back to where I was then, either, but it sure is fun to remember being so carefree and young.

When I look back like many of your readers I too don't miss the past, it was not easy, not only because of some of life's happenings, but because of the angst of my youth. I do miss however, the innocence, the thoughts that clouds were sheep in the sky, and that Santa Claus was real. LOL!

Rated beautiful!

Hello Violetsun, how are my west coast friends? You could not pay me to return to yesterday. I would only go kicking and screaming. LOL. In the moment , right ? Take care of you over there!....Ed :-}

Wow, what a powerful poem, especially that I just came from an activity last night honoring a fellow community organizer who died recently. This pricked my eyes!
