One Day's Notice
One Day's Notice

In payment for my services rendered,
I get to hold some memories ended,
hearts torn, castrated and dissipated,
my blissful life seems overrated.
Reduced to years of thankless task,
forgotten smiles just reality masked,
and I too dumb to read between the lines,
and trust that honesty would soothe my mind.
Instead while I upheld my end,
plans were made, an escape to tend,
I stood alone when that moment came,
my commitment irrelevant, my heart the same,
and I in shock for this ending clean,
my children aghast at their mother's dream.
Yet people do what they must do,
in search of self, and past undo,
to sleep at night from spectres vile,
who unveil truth and expose the lies.
So in my heart I forgive her now,
for all her pain and foolish self-doubt,
for in the end its happiness we seek,
and collateral damage unavoidable, bleak.
And life goes on, no soul mates find,
it's more about where happiness lies,
and relationships often have use-by-dates,
growing souls need tend their itches, aches.
All one can do is keep a loving heart,
no blame, no ill-will to keep us apart,
to live with love in all it's forms,
and allow souls to fly, not just conform.
Life is about change, and as painful as it can be, it is the source of our growth and doorways we could never have imagined.
