HubPages For Internet Writers

Hubpages is an Internet writers site. People who want to write about anything and everything can do so. For their effort they are rewarded with a passive income, generated from advertising, and access to a strong community.

Here they have the opportunity to debate within a busy forum, or simply, have fun with like-minded people. Joining HubPages is here and free.

The many thousands of Hubpages writers are known as 'Hubbers'. They create articles or stories known as Hubs. By searching the site you will soon realise that there is a wealth of experience, expertise and talent oozing out from the computer screen, all of which are easily accessible to you, the reader. In this article I showcase just some of these free online short stories. Here, I focus on stories with a twist!

The Online Reading Of Mark Knowles

My first writer that I wish to showcase is someone that is very well known on Hubpages. I am very excited to introduce you to him.

Some in the Hubpages community marvel at him, some not so much. Whatever, he is always seen as someone who might add a bit of contraversy to the site. None-the-less, he is an exceptionally talented writer, as you will see with the following two stories.

Enter the imaginative mind of ... Mark Knowles!

Showcasing The Fine Print From A Fine Creative Writer

Mr Knowles is more recognised for his SEO expertise than abilities in creative writing. The Fine Print, however, demonstrates the true talent that he is. In this online short story, there is a twist that will rock you to the core. Here is the teaser:

“You specifically told me to make that appointment, and to keep the rest of the day free, only yesterday. Sprint is your mobile phone provider.”

“I did no such thing. Why would I want to see my mobile phone provider?”

“But you did, I clearly remember.” Nearly in tears now, she’d be fired and never work in a law office again, she knew it. Mary Parker-Denison had ruined more careers than she’d had Frapuccinos. “And Mr. Jones is waiting in the foyer.”

So, what happens next? Does Mr Jones revoke her contract for non payment? Well you will need to click on the link to know the twist to this sinister story!

Mark Knowles Road To Hell

Another twister from the Knowles genius head-bank? Well, if you liked The Fine Print, you would be bedazzled by The Road To Hell!

This short story is set in the future and things have definately changed in New York City.

'10:30 p.m. New York City, New York, United Nations Department 13.

Killing yourself is the easy part, thought Arne Christiansen. Staying dead is not so easy...

Eschewing the current trend for Direct-Data-Neural-Input transmissions, he pushed a button and turned on the view screen in his living room, in time to catch the late-night newscasts. He much preferred watching something on a screen rather than having it piped directly through his optic and aural nerves.

As Chief Researcher of The World Genetics Research Facility, he was not only entitled to watch the uncensored version, he had the wherewithal to afford the space for the screen in the first place. At nearly 50m sq, his personal living space was palatial by today’s standards.'

What happens to Arne Christiansen? Only you can find out in this complicated world of genetic modifications, this story is a must read!

Online Reading From A BadHubbit

HubPages BadHubbit is a hubber that lives up to his name - but only in a good-bad way! If you look at his profile page, you will see that he comes from the 'Hubbisphere' - a bit like the same place that I come from, but probably somewhere more whirly-hurly than the 'Middle of nowhere, centre of everything'.

Anyway, it gives you some idea as to the depths of his bizarre mind, whilst looking at his subject matter and the forum comments he makes, one could find oneself querying his mental state! Again, in a good way, of course! Online reading from BadHubbit doesn't come around everyday! He is unique!

So, lets celebrate his head, especially when it comes to his creative writing capabilities! Who else could pull off an original idea and extend it into something more bizarre? Yes, I have your attention now, don't I? Let me draw you into his only online short story further on...

This Free Online Short Story Is An Original Concept On An Old Theme.

If 2012 could be the end of the known world, what will 3012 bring? Will life as we know it still exist or will it be a plastic, manufactured world? Will anything of the world we know survive and will someone like Lewis Carroll have a place in it?

Take a look at this mad snippet!

'Then came a new world order and here they were today, the perfect number of people who walked the planet Brillig with no deaths and no births. All that was in the past once the slithy toves gyred and gimbled in test tubes and threw up the perfect prototype for the race that was. When they were little borogoves, they were still mimsy – Jabber was, too...'

This free online short story, is an original concept on an old theme. Take a look!

Creative Writing? It'sssssssssss Kenny!

Kenny Wordsmith is an illustrator and writer of children's books. He likes to have fun, share laughs and information on anything and everything. Not only is he a clever creative writer, he enjoys his art work and believes that everyone is an artist.

Kenny is also happy to share the hubber love by helping others to discover the artist in them and has a good following of fans. He has also been writing on HubPages for the last 3 years.

Why not go and check this HubPages long-timer out and become another one of his fans... only AFTER you have read the teaser that I have in store for you!

The Problems With Ghost Writing - Confess, Kenny.. Confess!!!

Confessions of a Ghost Writer is a complete short story about the struggles that Ghost writers endure on their paths to a non-existent fame.

The character has a very unusual method of gaining inspiration for his story plot plans, but how else can a writer be heard in this world of competitive market forces? If it works, then why not use it?

'Sitting alone on a tombstone at midnight is my idea of a highly profitable business venture. My partner in this is a famous writer who doles out regular doses of scary literature to horror-hungry masses. His first few blood-freezers were entirely written by him, until he suffered from what even horror-writers have a horror of: a writer's block. Though he had quenched his thirst for fame by then, he had to continue, as he had just accepted an advance for a screenplay and his farmhouse was only half-built. That was when we met...'

Take a peek into the intreguing world of the ghost writer!

Kipperman loves to write! Kipperman is new on HubPages but, by what he has written, I think he will be gaining lots of followers.

Presently he is attending college and has, by all accounts, participated in a number of writing courses throughout the years. A Free Online Short Story About Chess

Now that we have the road to hell by Mark Knowles, I thought it was about time we redress the balance of the force. It is with Checkmate - a short story - that this twist has a more moral theme - something to learn by, something to value.

Two men are competing in a chess tournament. It is during this game that a lesson is learned. This changes the life of the black player... forever?

'“Can you hurry up?” Black asked.

“This is a chess tournament my man,” he chuckled. “Time is as involved in this game as strategy.”

“I don’t see your point.”

“It takes time to think of a strategy,” white replied with another brief chuckle.

“We’re going to be here all day; I’ve got some things I still need to do.” White looked up from the board, and into his opponents eyes. He grinned, “Then why have you come to play in a chess tournament?”'

Black realises that there was more to this game of chess than he had counted on!

Jed Fisher - An Invited Story Writer

So, along with the fishing theme, we have a Kipper, what about a Fisher?  How could I forget Jed Fisher?

This retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant has a BA in English. He is loving life right now - with no one is telling him what to do, he can be free to just be!

Many of his articles involve 'do it yourself', but apart from this, he enjoys creating short stories as well. This is where I come into play and have picked up on a very usual story, indeed! Why not take a look at Jed's profile and search for other articles of interest. In the meantime let me tease you with this chosen short story with a twist!

Uninvited - Proof That Wedding Joy Exists!

If you like weddings, Jed's story 'Uninvited' is a wedding story with a twist. Such are the joys of sweet love!

'She wrongly anticipated that her husband would have asked about the destination. “The wedding for Addison Madison and Birgit Scott, in Leon.”

Jack said, “After church?”

She turned the TV back on and spoke as she went to the kitchen, “We’ll go right after church; we’ll dress nice for the wedding.”'

Uninvited is a story that provides the proof that wedding joy exists. See how this couple enhances the wedding experience!

Introduce You To Cindyvines And The Case Of Billy B

Although without a twist, here at HubPages, we have an exceptional published writer who inspires all with her talent. Cindyvines, created this exceptional book 'The Case of Billy B'.

People who have read it have marvelled at the story with 5 star review examples, like this one by Stephen Richens:

'The Case of Billy B is a very touching and emotional story. The Author effectively illustrates how authorities do not view men abused by women with the same seriousness that they view the inverted scenario. The Case of Billy B is very well-written, and an emotionally resonant read. The book defines the story of the perseverance of a single father, Chris and his son Billy. The story is very emotional and heart touching. The characters are well defined and easy to understand. In my opinion this book is suitable for adults.
Overall, The Case of Billy B is an amazing story and I highly recommend this book to all readers.'

Need I say more? Check it out!
