Or So It Would Seem

The reason we’re so afraid
Is because we can’t imagine the future
Some are worried about too much money
Some are worried about too much pollution
There’s an inevitability about it all
We can only wave tied hands in the air
At skies that are no longer like diamonds

The people are so very meek
They stare with false courage in their eyes
A shield has been raised for their defense
A shield has been raised for their sins
They are unseen from behind puffy clouds
Which turn brown and then white again
In numbers no longer worth counting

The memory of the past is gone
Some are unsure of who they are
They were only observers of fate
They were only observers of success
Still they walk among us
With still hearts unable to make blood
To water the ground that tires of their weight

The acceptance of peril changes each day
To catch your breath is merely a decision
We can run away and pretend we are safe
We can run away and know we are not
Those who know of these things are calm
They have made their arrangement with a guess
It only took a lifetime to believe in faith

What seemed so very long ago was in my lifetime
Every change in man happened on my watch
Those who would dare have always been strange
Those who would dare have always been extreme
They gave because they couldn’t live with themselves
It was either live in shame or die in relief
For no good man can ignore what God taught
