Our Duty of Care

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

An onerous duty of care we have for our world,

with our own inhabitants bent on destruction.

How grave the task to contest the will of wealth,

for preserving life and environment.

Ignorance is not the antagonist, indifference is,

with short-sightedness that will end our world for mere financial gain.

Conservation can never be realised without change,

Without laws that prohibit negative environmental factors.

But who will not contest these laws,

when jobs and families are on the line.

We have based our world on capitalism,

with environmental concerns secondary in consideration.

Now, our choices have had consequence,

and the systems of which we relied have failed us.

To survive, we must change the systems controlled by men of greed.

They will not relinquish hold; how will we force them?

It is not us who will bare the consequence,

but our children and our children’s children.

For any future there must be action, and it must reach those in control.

Industry must become green, and governments must make them.

Money is the only language that commerce understands,

therefore it is the logical persuader of change, by law.

How else are we to stop eroding our future?

nice! it's very true! the perils of indifference are really tragic.
