Our Little Blue Playground

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

Endlessly, time marks our ride,

each one of us

a glimpse of expression,

a flicker of light,

amid the infinite,

the vast and open stage of life.

What is done,

what is accomplished,

bares witness to possibility,

not us as individuals,

we, the carriers of will,

and will the catalyst of change.

Ego is a device of self-awareness,

and in no way,

is meaningful to the universe,

merely our choices manifest,

in the pursuit of dreams,

a will ingratiating self.

Human arrogance

is only surpassed by

delusions of grandeur,

and importance founded by

a wanted projection, nothing real,

just the search for justification.

We seek to find purpose,

in our paths of direction,

justify our choices for some ideal,

something that will define us,

give our lives a profound meaning

and importance.

The truth is we are unimportant,

not even a furtive glance

from an omniscient universe,

that cares less about our self-promotion,

instead the choices of humanity,

what we collectively can give meaning to.

Life can only be about one thing,

life itself,

not individuals, heroes, cowards,

the good, the bad,

simply the expression of life,

and the harmony within it.

In that sense life only finds meaning,

when in harmony,

and our highest achievement to that end,

is love, unencumbered,

when we can relate to all life,

with an open and giving heart.

Without this,

earthly life is pointless,

an endless cycle of narcissism,

and regardless of individuality,

and accomplishment,

a turnstile existence, that is finite.

In the end,

love will define humanity,

or without it destroy,

and we, regardless of our aspirations,

will simply be a flame doused,

and in time forgotten.

Love has always been the answer.

We can deliberate life to the end of time, but ultimately love is the purpose and definitive achievement in life; the greatest accomplishment- to love and be loved.

Absolutely Wayne, human beings are so arrogant, thinking that we are superior in any way to other lifeforms. If it wasn't so sad and destructive, it would be funny. All life is made of the same stuff, and we should be appreciating it rather than judging to satisfy our own egos. Take care.

Tony; it's hard to discern any one of your pieces as a favorite, simply because they are all of great quality, but I must say, this is one of the more profound poems of yours that I can remember. Maybe it's because my mind seems to travel along the same wormhole of thought as your subject matter...and speaking of matter; isn't that what we all are? The difficult part of existing in this current form of matter is that we are self conscious. Which I believe is the reason so many miss the point, (as Lee Tea said) and instead imagine ourselves a divine species.

sharing!

Likewise, Lee.

This poem sucked me in - I had yet to discover your profile. It's hard to pull off the writer-salesman-philosopher hat trick, but somehow we've both totally done it. What a great find you are! I look forward to wasting time on your page in the near future.

Thanks Lee, and great to meet a positive, free-spirited soul as yourself. And thanks for the follow; I shall return the favor as I believe we both have much to offer to satisfy a thirsty soul. I am a poet and philosopher among other things, and have found writing to be my purpose in life. Hope you continue to enjoy my viewpoint and to share my my life has discovered. Take care.

"Is there a point? Let's find a point.... It's only a choice between fear and love."

Pardon my lack of original content, but from your writing, I suspect you may enjoy this as much as I.
