Personal Freedom- A Poem

Source

Personal Freedom

Within this prison from inside

Spirits stay silent, away from truth

Emotions entrapped, hide

Afraid of what they could view.

The smell of death that permeates the walls around us

Of those tortured, fallen

From love, from trust

On their knees begging, crawl'n

Struggling to see the light, they must

Search for freedom, stuck in purgatory

Full of nerves, sadness and anger

Overwhelmed by worry.

Nothing left to live for.

Hanging from these chains of souls

Helpless, a prisoner within myself again

Reaching out just to let go

For this darkness to end.

A sudden breeze, a sudden light

A window to crawl through

A miracle at night

One in a few,I escape myself, my cell

Free to roam, to laugh

To feel happy and well

And to know I escaped this wrath

Of my own self.

Rise Above Ourselves

We are often held "prisoners", if you will, by our mental illnesses or even by limitations. Sometimes we'll break free only to find ourselves behind those all too familiar bars again. It's time to rise above ourselves and no longer be held back by those illnesses. We will have our ups and downs. But no longer will be be called Prisoners or Slaves but Patriots and Heroes.

Very Different but I enjoyed reading it. I didn't know these poems were posted but I found them. I had never read this one before. Sounds like a lot of stressful thinking went into this poem. Tessie

That it did Tessie. I have struggled with mental illness and had an abusive childhood. I release my struggles in my writing but I also try to help others as well. Glad you enjoyed.

This is the brutal truth, a sad reality of life as we know it! Sometimes we have trouble getting out of our own way. Unfortunately, this way of thinking leads to our demise, and blocks our blessings. This poem was a joy to read very introspective, and thought-provoking piece! Keep up the good work.
