Poem: A life of pain

I try to remain positive in life, but lately I feel as if I am living underneath a waterfall of pain. It seems no matter which decision I make, which path I choose, someone gets hurt, or my life gets worse. I am hoping the rainbow will appear before the sunset, but my candle of optimism is running dim.

I wrote this after a continuing difficult season at home.

A life of pain

12/22/2010

Each day I'm amazed that breathing,

Is a dance of chance I take,

Where falling beneath this shadow,

Is the home where my heart lay.

When dancing beside you

and dancing inside you

is the darkness that consumes,

The mystery I hunger

the face that becomes you

the addiction I can not shake

[CHORUS]

Because it's pain,

That is my life.

It seems this shame,

Has become my knife.

The blade that gashes,

The teeth that gnashes,

The last that makes me fall,

Because without this pain,

I wouldn't feel at all.

This face with a smile that saw me,

Has faded to memories now disgraced.

Oh when did time fall in this chasm,

This porous constrictive space.

Because with knees knelt beside you

and hands that once guide you

I fall and rest on this face,

When begging and pleading

becomes much to needy

and failures cloud now consumes

[CHORUS]

Because it's pain

That is my life.

It seems this shame

Has become my knife.

The blade that gashes,

The teeth that gnashes,

The last that makes me fall,

Because without this pain,

I wouldn't feel at all.

I wouldn't feel at all

I wouldn't feel at all

I wouldn't feel at all

Why must I land

Why must I stand

This shallow ground

Beneath your crown

To whence I wait

To fill this space

Your want

My need

Your will

I bleed

Please take me now!!

[CHORUS]

Because it's pain

That is my life.

It seems this shame

Has become my knife.

The blade that gashes,

The teeth that gnashes,

The last that makes me fall,

Because without this pain,

I wouldn't feel at all.

A sad yet true observation about life I think. Well done. Also, is this supposed to be a song?

Yeah. Sometimes I get lyrical ideas and don't quite have the music for them. I hope to go back one of these days and lay down some guitar to the lyrics I've written.
