Song Lyrics - Broken Bottles, Broken Dreams

Broken Bottles, Broken Dreams

I like this one because I was on a business trip and we had drinks at the hotel bar that night. The bartender was an attractive woman and as we drank we ramped up our leering. At one point she threw one of the empty wine bottles into the trash bin as bartenders are wont to do and I said to my boss: "broken bottles, broken dreams." He and the others knew I like to write so they demanded a poem on the spot. Anyway the pressure was on and I'd had a few by this time yet I was able to mock up a piece (on a napkin) that one of the guys (a lawyer as if that matters) said "this is the real thing." I gave her the poem and she appeared to be flattered but all it became was a moment that passed. I don't know her name and I don't have her number. I'm just the guy who walked in, gave her a poem and vanished forever. Here it is:

You caught my eye
But you wouldn't play your part
You broke some glass
Then you broke my heart

Why does it always happen this way?
Everytime our eyes meet
You seem to walk away
Walk away
Far away

Breakin' bottles
Breakin' hearts
Pourin' dreams
When will love start?

Parting is upon us
Will the memory last?
Was that the one?
Or just another moment that passed?

Breakin' bottles
Breakin' hearts
Pourin' dreams
When will love start?

To suffer the pain of togetherness
Or the liberation of being a muse
It's not for me to say
I'll leave that for you to choose

Living as the dream
Living as the mystery
Living as the fantasy
Living as the hope

Breakin' bottles
Breakin' hearts
Pourin' dreams
When will love start?

Voted up...Not bad for a napkin poem...I really like the refrain " Breakin' bottles

Breakin' hearts

Pourin' dreams

When will love start? "

Tequila sunrises can be harsh...Larry

Thanks man... Tequila Sunrise may be their best song... "She wasn't just another woman and I couldn't keep from coming on.... it's been so long.... take another shot of courage...wonder why the right words never come... you just get numb"

Don't you know it? Been there; done that....

Actually, Best of My Love is my favorite..." Wasting our time on cheap talk and wine. Left us so little to give. That same old crowd was like a cold dark cloud. That we could never rise above " ...Larry

I think you slipped me a micky....

Like Frank said on Scarface: "Don't underestimate THE OTHER MAN'S GREED!"

Ah...Such sweet greed...Greed is Good, according to Michael Douglas...

In this case the greed would be good for the ladies because I will be motivated knowing you are fending for yourself! So they may get a "great" poem from me when a "good" one would have sufficed....

What round were you on when you wrote this? As a former bar fly and friend to many a fine bartender. That flattered look on her face was followed with a good grief then a secretive circular filing.

The story is humorous tho.

As David Lee Roth sang in some lost Van Halen song, I was probably half-way to the label....

She told me she was going to put it up on the wall... but it got awkward for some reason with all the guys acting like idiots (typical) and I really just never followed up (as if it would have mattered).

This should be set to music-- it's very cute and catchy, like country and western.

Thank you Steele.... when I wrote songs as opposed to poems it always seems they work best as a country song.... guess my Southern roots are showing!
