Poem - Forever in a Day
Poem – Forever in a Day
Glistening in the light of your life,
I lie here sharing your very soul.
One day I will make you my wife,
But until then it's just a day marriage stole.
Knowing you’re my forever, knowing you’re my tomorrow.
It fills my heart with splendour, and also a deep sense of sorrow.
For human life is fragile, it crumbles under just one touch.
As much as we want forever, in reality that is just too much.
After a few years of magic, we will wither away and die.
For all the effort and sacrifice, I end up asking why?
What is the point in living, what is the point in life?
But for me the only thing that matters is having you as my wife.
You are the reason I awaken each morning;
the reason I smile throughout the day.
You’re the reason why my heart is always singing
and you’re the reason why I’m in eternal pain.
When I met your eyes across the room,
When my heart beat started to scream and shout.
I knew right then I’d be your groom,
And of that I never doubt.
But life took a twisted turn, as you say.
And forever is something we no longer hold.
For a week before our wedding day,
you fell sick and your body felt cold.
Our life changed from happiness, roses and flowers,
To sitting in the hospital waiting room for hours upon hours.
Doctors would appear and shake their head without saying many a word;
Every single part of my soul died with what they inferred.
You were being stolen from me before our story even began.
This is a pain we endured that I wish on no friend, enemy or fellow man.
So this is the story of my life.
Only one thing comes to mind as we pray your last rights.
I’ve spent the last few months worried about how I would cope after you were gone.
And I neglected to nurture you light before it no longer shone.
If I could have that time back, I would spend every second on you.
We’d go out there and be happy, doing what we love to do.
I’d make your last days memorable and we’d have a ball of a time.
I’d shower you with love and gifts and spend on you every single last dime.
We’d have no regrets when the time came and our living love expires.
We’d live a life time in a matter of days, fulfilling every one of our last desires.
You’d no longer be in my arms, but I know your love is inside me.
Every beat of my heart, is a beat of yours and of that I can guarantee.
