Poem: My Beauty Will Last

My beauty will last as long as I live;

No dwindling of charm you will see.

I have found a way to boost my appeal

As the years take their toll on me.

I’ll point to the aging signs as they come,

As trophies I’ve brought from the past:

As lessons I’ve learned and lessons I’ve taught;

For beauty with wisdom will last.

My wrinkles will teach the beauty of smiles

That as they leave their marks on the skin;

They also make merry marks on the hearts

Of those who keep them stored within.

Bags under my eyes will prove that I’ve watched

History, pleasant and aghast;

Bags laden with knowledge will seem quite fair;

For beauty with wisdom will last.

Folks will not see the long sag on my arms.
How could they in my embrace?
They’ll feel the full strength of my fearless squeeze
Then we’ll look at each other’s face.
If they raise their sights to the gray in my hair;
I’ll tell of life’s stresses real fast,
And how wisdom kept me looking well;
For beauty with wisdom will last.
.

Source

I’ll lean on my cane when my feet are tired,

And walk far and fast as I can;

Meeting new people and sharing their strength

Is part of my beauty-wise plan.

My aged lips will not get any thinner;

They’ll fly full like a ship’s foremast

Cheering the young to live wisely and well,

For beauty with wisdom will last.

I’ll wear trendy shades to offset the sun’s rays,
And help me be able to see
The beautiful figures, poises and gaits
Which remind me what I used to be.
I’ll recall what wisdom taught me back then
Before my features lost their blast;
That years cannot change loveliness inside
For beauty and wisdom will last.

.
I'll tell my children and their children too,
Of the struggles which kept me strong;
I'll write for them, beautiful words of love
Which they can make into song;
For I know their beauty is influenced by
The beauty they see in me;
Lord, help me display Your beauty and grace
So they can safely follow me.

My beauty will last till the day I die,
Not because of human skill;
But because when my wisdom and beauty grow less,
I trust God my lack to fill.
The challenge for all my good friends and me
When the vote of age is cast,
Is to balance good looks with godly wit;
Then beauty with wisdom will last.

Beauty and the Cost (Ten Facts)

The first five facts were reported by StyleCaster in 2013:

1. Among women around the world, only 4% consider themselves beautiful.

2. Although 80% percent of women agree that every woman has something about her that is beautiful, they do not recognize their own beauty.

3. One in three women refuses to leave the house without makeup.

4. On average, the morning beauty routine takes 76 minutes on Monday, but lessens as the week progresses. By Friday, the time is down to 19 minutes.

5. In 2012, consumers spent $768 million dollars was spend on at-home nail care.

6. A facelift , according to DocShopcan cost anywhere from $3,000 to $15,000 based on variable factors like geography, extent of treatment.

7. The average cost of liposuction is $2,866, according to 2013 statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.

The combined effort of the Huffingon Post and YouGov produced the following facts also in 2013:

8. They found that 35% of women use two or more beauty products daily while 54% of men do not use any product in their daily routine.

9. While 7% of women use up to 6 items, only 1% of men do.

10. Women spend over $426 billion a year on beauty products.

The Alternative

The following quote is an alternative for those who cannot afford the pricey beauty regimen. It is credited to the lovely Audrey Hepburn who repeated it quite often.

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."

Nice poem you have here MsDora, I never really thought about old age in the ways you've described in your poem.

My thoughts on old age usually is that I will be trying everything in my power to fight it off by use of all healthy natural means, definitely not any surgical mean, but sure in ways of good eating, and good exercise to keep the joints strong.

This hub is written very well with great references and full of liveliness. Voted up as beautiful for the poetical creativity level, and interesting for the intro, thanks for sharing & I'll be reading more as time permits me, oh and thanks for the nice comment you left on my hub recently.

CloudExplorer, you made me smile when you wrote about fighting off old age. Keep up your healthy activities, but view them as a way to embrace rather than prevent old age. Attitude is everything. Thanks for all your kind words, and I'm sure you deserve all the comments you receive.

Dora, this is such an beautiful and uplifting poem. Wisdom increases and is permanent than physical beauty that is only skin deep and fades with age.

This is a very hitting reminder to those who think nothing of going under the surgeon's knife.

Voted up,and awesome. Shared too.

I am a relative newcomer to HP, and when I go hub hopping, the places where I land seem to be just the right place for my state of mind. 50 is right around the corner for me, and so much of my livelihood is up in the air; but, then I read something so beautiful as what you have written and feel the power of your beauty and your wisdom.

Hi Dora, I found a lone comment on one of my HUBS that went back 18 months or so and it was yours! I wanted to see what you are up to and landed here today. You have some lovely thoughts here. I'll follow you now that I have found you again. I suspect you would enjoy my HUB on Michael Landon. I haven't done a HUB in over a year and the Landon HUB has a steady stream of readers to this day. I'm working on a series of illustrated children's books that I am excited about.
