Poem - Suppression

What scares you more?
A thief in the night?
Or your loneliness?
Are you afraid
To cry?
To be sad?
Why?
You are not alone
Everyone is sad
But so many of us
Are unaware
Because
We don't want to know
Ourselves
We don't want to burden
Others
Who we know to be sad
So we pretend
And laugh
When we should cry
If only for a moment
To wash our minds
To make green
Our hearts
Rejuvenating the soil
Of our soul
For love and life
To grow
To give
To receive
As it is intended
As it is written
So many times
By others
Lonely
As you

Yes we walk around with facades and masks, Like the old song says "Smile now Cry later" Thats just the way the ball bounces. I could only imagine everyone walking around moping and crying and feeling pitty for themselves. No one would want to be out. Life is filled with happiness and joy. Why paint it with saddness and hurt and pain?? Great hub!! Thank You

Thank you ahorseback and bella,

I hope it is apparent that this is a message of working your way to true understanding and openness about love and life. Don't sit there and pretend if you are sad. Work through it; feel it and then you can move forward. It's not a message of dwelling on negatives...

Interesting style.. and message. There are some of us who are not sad though or afraid to be alone... Clearly it depends on the party and where/how they were raised. In NZ, many of us crave the silence of the natural beauty we have here... Sorry I was not meaning to detract from your poem. I find that the best time to cry is when you try to read your best poem out loud and can't get through it without a tear.. It also serves to show you that the poem you wrote is pretty good!!! lol.

Thanks for sharing your talent, I have marked you 'positively.' Take Care..

Pearldiver,

YOU ARE SO WRONG! Ha... just kidding... I don't assume I'm right or know what everyone is thinking when I write a poem. Some people need to hear this and others do not... but I do think we all have something on the inside that we fight through so it's all a matter of degree... thank you for commenting...

This is so true... but we tend to look for deeper meanings. This is the way of life. I liked the poem, it really ticks a lot of boxes.

Thank you Twilight.... sometimes it's not so deep; we just need to deal with a little thing that nags and then we can move on... but it can build into something larger if you walk around it....

I really like the artwork you matched with this work. Did you do the art as well? Lovely.

Jaynie,

Thank you for the comment... I wish that was my artwork but I'm a poet not a painter... at least I have decent taste eh?

Tears have a healing hormone in them that is not there when you cry from onions! Yes! So tears are good water for that soil you refer to. THANKS for the poetry, the healing verse. Lonely is one experience and being alone (all one) another!

Anywho, Mr. Philosophical here! Keep the verses coming.

Vern! Thank you sir... being alone is ok for me because all these hubs are were facilitated by being alone. I was able to think and not be interrupted...

Men don't cry...but they should...women, we bare our souls to one another. I have a good man who can show his feminine side, when I need it...he is truly my best friend. I also like the art work. Thanks for sharing this side of you.

I don't really cry but I do get choked up at some things. An incredible singer can get to me... my kids get to me... I'm pretty much a guy's guy in person (from South Texas; raised by a Cuban) but I think a man should be able to be a man and still have emotions when appropriate...
