Poem: To my children
_____________________________
Locked up inside of me
I waited…
Unaware of the wait,
Unaware of the numbness,
Like in a dream…
Until I felt such pain….
Waking me.
Your tiny hands, feet, hearts
Gave birth to me.
Every time I held you
I grew and stretched inside myself
Larger, bigger, taller and fiercer
All inside myself…
The endless,
Sleepless,
Desperate nights
Of making,
Shaping a woman,
A mother…
Your laughter lifting me up,
Your cries pushing me down,
Your pain turning my insides out
Only to find a silvery sparkle of faith,
Raging red courage and strength,
Patience and trust…
All that, you delivered to me
By the light in your eyes…
We shaped ourselves to each other,
Breathing together,
Loving together,
Growing together,
Learning from the pain
And the love and the touches…
From you I was born…
Your tiny hearts
Making me whole.
