Poem and Prayers Dedicated To My Daughter In Law

Poem: Easy to Love

Their Wedding Day
Their Wedding Day | Source

What wonderful blessings God sends our way

In good gifts that come from above!

And the gift that He gave my son and me

Is a woman easy to love.

First, she proves she's a special creation;

She wears God’s design on her life.

His beauty glows bright in her countenance;

She's the portrait of a good wife.

Then, like me, she's a genuine woman.

She displays in her feminine charm

The sweet, gentler side of God’s nature:

Confident, dignified, and warm.

To all these good reasons I still must add

That she's the belle my son chose.

He looked close at the garden in full bloom

And selected the fairest rose.

Now that she is officially his wife

I share in her hope and her joy

That God will grant her a lifetime of love

In the home she shares with my boy.

I’m committed to praying for both of them,

To support in ways that I can;

To be the best mother-in-law there is

And support her stand by her man.

She's won my respect for all that she does:

Wedding cakes and gourmet dishes,

Self-care, business management and more

Her fine skills exceed my wishes.

So I thank God when I count my blessings

For the gifts He sends from above;

For His special gift to my son and me-

A woman so easy to love.

My Wedding Day Prayer

Guess who made the cake?
Guess who made the cake? | Source

Bless this loving wife.

Give her a tenderness that makes her great . . . a deep sense of understanding and a great faith in You.

Give her that inner beauty of soul that never fades - eternal youth that is found in holding fast to the things that never age.

May she so live that he may be pleased always to reverence and adore her. Amen.

(The original form of this prayer was published in Decision Magazine sometime before June 1971 and was attributed to Dr. Lewis Evans.)

My First Anniversary Prayer

Dedication

The poem was started within the week of our first meeting. I instantly loved her as a daughter apart from the fact that my son loved her as his wife-to-be.

The words of my poem are the genuine expression of how I feel about her. I gladly welcome her into our family, and pray that we will enrich the lives of each other.

My poem is also my pledge to her that as best as I know how I will:

  • continue to love her
  • be always willing to share with her
  • make myself available to support her in whatever way I can
  • promote her welfare as a woman, a wife and a daughter.

Heavenly Father, today on their first anniversary, I am grateful for the love You have created within the hearts of my son and his wife toward each other.

Thank You for the pleasant interaction my daughter-in-law and I share, and for her Christlike virtues which make her still easy to love.

Please show me how to maintain a welcoming attitude toward her, and how to be positively involved, but not interfering in her married life.

May we become better, happier women as we both contribute toward the happiness of her marriage.

I pray with thanksgiving, in the name of Jesus, Amen.

I just want to say how beautifully written your poem is and it is truly a scent of rose with the freshness for a young married couple and the way you have graciously accepted your daughter-in-law into your family is a blessing from God. Keep on writing inspirational poems, it is good for the soul. I write poetry all the time, it comes from the heart and is heartfelt to those it can touch.

This is incredibly sweet. What a thoughtful way to bless your daughter-in-law. I especially liked your anniversary prayer. Your wisdom is evident: "Please show me how to maintain a welcoming attitude toward her, and how to be positively involved, but not interfering in her married life." I would be blessed to hear my mom and mother in law pray this over me!

Hi Dora, so glad I got the opportunity to read this captivating poem about a precious daughter-in-law. If every mom had such an attitude and feeling toward her daughter-in-law it may help more likely, to save marriages. The giving of love like this can do so much for a woman especially if she's never had a mother's love like this and many have not. Your poem and over all hub deserves a standing ovation with honor. Your poem deserves all the accolades there are for expressing such warmth for a daughter in law. Is it possible that I can become your son-in law :-)?

Word, if you can think it, you can achieve it; that's what the smart people say (smile).

Thanks for your very positive comment. Yes, I am trying to support my son and daughter-in-law as best as I can.
