Poems By Fastfreta

Why Poetry

I am so completely blocked, I mean I have writers block, so I decided to put a few of my poems out to the world. Now I don't claim to be a poet, I actually wrote these a few months ago in an instant of boredom. Please don't be too critical. I just wanted to keep the juices flowing, and not let too much time go by without publishing something.

These poems have nothing to do with my personal feelings, they just what came to mind when I was thinking of what to write at the time.

I actually know nothing about poetry, so I don't even know what kind of poetry this is suppose to be.

My Attempt At Poetry

Where Were You When

Where were you when I cried, you were not there to dry my tears
Where you when I laughed, you were not there to share my joy
Where were you when I fell down, you were not there to lift me up
Where were you when I stood up, you were not there to cheer me on
Where were you when I lost, you were not there to encourage me
Where were you when I won, you were not there to congratulate me
Where were you when they all left, you were not there to fill the void
Where were you when everyone was there, you were not in the crowd
Where were you when I was sad, you were not there to comfort me
Where were you when I was happy, you were not there to share my delight
Where were you when I was in danger, you were not there to protect me
Where were you when I was safe, you were not there to share the feeling.
Where were you when I failed, you were not there to give me hope
Where were you when I succeeded, you were not there to share in my success
Where were you when I was ill, you were not there to rub my head
Where you when I was well, you were not there to dance with me
Where were you
It doesn't matter you are here now

A POEM BY

You Were There

You were there to calm my fears
You were there to wipe my tears
You were there to help me cope
You were there to give me hope
You were there to give me power
You were there in my darkest hour
You were there to make me smile
You were there all the while
You were there to hold my head
You were there when I to thee wed
You were there when sadness I did see
You were there to comfort me
You were there when I was glad
You were there when times were bad
You were there when times were good
You were there when you felt you should
You were there when the day was bright
You were there when I could see no light
You were always there
Where are you now

A Poem by
Alfreta ‘fastfreta’ Sailor ©

You Are Mine

You are mine, all the way
You are mine, no matter what they say
You are mine, I want to hold you near
You are mine, have no fear
You are mine, with every move I make
You are mine with every breath I take
Your are mine, didn't you know
You are mine, please don’t go
You are mine, let’s not delay
You are mine, let’s seize the day
You are mine, what can I say to you
You are mine, just say I do

Nice try, Freta. If I could just make a suggestion: You might try putting your poems in verses and arranging the lines so they scan. It would give them rhythm and help them to flow and rhyme more interestingly...just my humble opinion. Good job. Keep it up.

I love the painting at the top of the page.

I'm not a poet either fastfreta, but I enjoyed what you shared with us! Way to go - you are very brave to step into uncharted territory and share your experience with the world.

My favorite was "Where Were You When"

dearest fastfreta, I'm no poet either but in my opinion anything written that expresses how one feels is poetry and indeed this was. I think they were arranged beautifully and flowed the way they were supposed to. It is interesting to see the order in which you placed the poems. Reminds me of the rollercoaster of relationships we go through. I think it ended on a hopeful note. You have a beautiful soul and all of your writings reflect that, even if it is just showing the many uses of aluminum foil. You shine just as brightly. I absolutely love the painting. Who did it?.......your loyal fan, Lisa

I would differ with you, my dear. You are a poet of the best kind -- a poet of the heart that's lived and survived. I'll enjoy reading your poetry any time the muse strikes you. Best, Sis

I agree wholeheartedly with Angela-these words spoke volumes to me.

Please offer some more!

And by the way, I admire your courage-I've felt 'poems'in my mind and have never written them down.

Hi fasfreta,

Your poetry turned out well! If only you have the time to read these poems in a poetry reading session with the feelings that you had when you wrote them and when you read them, then you will realize that you have indeed written a poem. Please keep writing a poem, fasfreta, not just as a deterrent to writers' block but as a part of your writing life. I believe there is poetry in your system. Good luck!

Thank you franciaonline, for your inspiration and encouragement. I will consider writing more, but now I must first get over this writers block. Thanks again for reading. See you soon.

I am no poet but I think your poems are great. I think poems are ones expressions of intimate and inner feelings and that is why is takes courage to share them. I felt the same when I published a poem on how I was feeling about midlife. Thanks for sharing.

These poems are wonderful! If I had to classify, I would say the first one is more prose, you have that lyrical, rhythmic flow in it; it's my favorite, by the way. The others follow a basic rhyme scheme. You did a fabulous job!

An admirable attempt, fastfreta. I'm in agreement with alekhouse. Try to break up the monotony of repeating lines. Go one line at a time--with and without rhyming. Thanks so much for the effort and keep on writing!

fastfreta profile image

fastfreta 6 years ago from Southern California Author

Thank you all for weighing in on these my first attempt at poetry. I can't say that I have the fever for this form of expression, so I'm not too sure I'll do it again, but who knows, if the mood strikes me maybe, umm.

Thank you so much dohn121, It's advice like yours and alekhouse that's invaluable to me when I venture into the unknown. But I don't think I'll be venturing again too soon, LOL.

Thank you msannec for identifying this for me, as I stated before I am clueless as to what I wrote.

Thanks Pamela99 and uliveulearn for your kind expressions.

Again thank you all, you're too kind.

Have you thought of having some of these put to music? :-)

fastfreta profile image

fastfreta 6 years ago from Southern California Author

How ironic that you said that, I had a friend that sings, tell me that one in particular sounded like a song. She even demonstrated how it would sound. Umm, don't give me any ideas. Hey singers out there, hear that. LOL! Thanks for that De Greek.

Where were you when was beautiful. I was feeling so bad, it was so sad and desolate. But that last line just slaps you in the face with forgiveness, what a wonderful concept, and a lesson in poetry.

Thank you Dolores, You inspire me, considering I didn't really know what I was doing, that is quite a compliment, I am honored. Thank you again.

I agree with alekhouse when it comes to the first verse. The other ones are laid out nicely, I think. Good job for a self-professed beginning poet! Repetition is a valuable tool in the poet's work book and you use it very well in all three of these lovely verses.

By the way, that picture is beautiful! Where did you get it?

fastfreta profile image

fastfreta 6 years ago from Southern California Author

Thank you ultimateshazaam, You mean I accidentally really wrote poetry, (smile). I just might give it another try, but work on the suggestions given. Thanks for the critique. About the picture, I got it from a Free Photo site, can't remember which.

I liked them all, your emotion is truly felt through your words. I've posted a poem a while back, and don't claim to be a poet myself, but I think think there's something theraputic about throwing yourself out there in you own words "artistically" =) I say keep it up! I'm glad you shared them.

fastfreta profile image

fastfreta 6 years ago from Southern California Author

Oh my goodness Beth and cheryl you both are so inspiring and encouraging. I'm almost sorry that I wrote these because now I set the bar too high for myself. Of course I know I have a long way to go to be a stellar poet, I think now I need to explore that aspect of my personality. Thanks to you both for the encouragement.

Beth100 profile image

Fastfreta, you have set no bar. That's the beauty of poetry. You write as you feel, expressing emotions that are yours. You've done a splendid job of writing your first ones. Keep going, be relaxed about it and the words will flow right through your pen to paper. (BTW, a huge hug for you today!!!) ((HUGS))

Thank you Beth, you're too sweet. I am truly going to try. And HUGS to you too. Have a beautiful day.
