Hero Poetry: Thanks to all My Heroes
From comic books and movies,
We're enamoured with a man,
He might not have a flaming sword,
But he always has a plan.
See there's a damsel who needs saving,
And a villain with a plot,
A hive of deadly creatures,
But a coward he is not.
He'll conquer every demon,
He'll fight off every crook,
You'll find him in the cinema,
Or in the pages of a book.
And once the evil's thwarted,
The day well and truly won,
He'll vanish to the sunset,
With said damsel's dress undone.
Real life plays out different,
With heroes much more few,
Who also conquer evil,
Who still know what to do.
Yet, for them there is no sunset,
No promise of reward,
The damsel's gone off with someone else,
Whilst they were getting gored.
Not a thank you is there waiting,
No congratulations ball,
But be sure that when there's trouble.
They're the first you call.
For that's what heroes strive for,
Not for glory nor for praise,
Nor for money, nor for power,
Nor the promise of cheap lays!
Yes, the heroes are all out there,
For when you can't take anymore,
And their ready for you night or day,
Their cape's hanging by the door.
Have you got a hero?
