Imagery in Poetry: Two Poems from the Heart
Heart Song
Ebony wings, sleek and shiny, graze the
Silver skyline in graceful, slow motion,
Cutting through my gaze at the rose-
Ruby Red, and opening ever so perfectly,
Revealing its exquisite beauty.
This is the opening of the heart.
A winged creature brushing softly by,
And perfumed petals lingering in the air
Like a lover’s kiss.
Oh, Joy, you are the delight of this happy child.
My heart bursts with the flavor of you.
And you cannot help but splash Yellow
In all directions, like the explosion
Of the sun on a crisp, clear morning.
How righteous it is then,
To seize the blanket of stars from the Universe
And wrap myself up in all of its glory.
Enfolded in endless possibilities,
My heart sings!

Hide and Seek
In this game of Hide and Seek,
Where my heart yearns to be found,
I will let you find me.
No matter that I have immersed myself
Thoroughly in the play of make believe,
Lost among the images I have erected.
No matter that, in this separation,
I have confused myself with beliefs
Which no longer speak of who I am,
A chasm of doubt and mistrust.
You will find me in the quiet whispers
Between sleep and wakefulness,
And leap from the stars of the Infinite Darkness.
Sparkling beacons beckoning me home.
In this chaos we call our reality,
You will show your face in the faces of strangers
And touch my heart ever so lightly.
And, I will let you…
…find me.
