Poetry: You Are Forever In My Heart
You are forever in my heart
A place deep inside my soul
Even though you are now gone
I will never let you go
You never had it easy
Life brought struggle, tears, and pain
Even so, you were always my shelter
From the storm, the wind, and rain
Daddy you are now in peace
With grandma and your dad
You are finally home
Although it makes me sad
Just to know your not alone
That your with loved ones and friends
That there is no more suffering
Now your happiness can begin
I will always love you daddy
For as long as I live
To have you back here with us
There is nothing I wouldn't give
Although I let you go today
You will never leave
Til the day I die
You will always live within me
So thank you for everything
You will truly be missed
Until we meet again
I give you one last kiss
I know you just want us to be happy
So I go on with a smile
You are forever in my heart
You made my life well worthwhile
This poem is dedicated to Brian McNeely, Heather McNeely, Ashile(Hale) McNeely, Holly McNeely, Crystal McNeely, and the rest of the McNeely family. This poem is also dedicated to Charles "Pig" McNeely Jr. I first met Pig nearly 10 years ago. Ashlie, my wife, was the youngest daughter and you know how daddy's are about their baby girl. Pig was like a dad to me and I know I had his blessing with Ashlie. He knew and understood me, loved me like I was his own son. The past two months have been hard for the entire family. Pig passed away this morning, two months after he was diagnosed with fourth stage cancer. I know he had been suffering long before he was diagnosed. Pig was a tough old bird, tough as they come. Anyone that knows him can vouch for that. Pig went through a lot this past year. To Brian, Heather, Holly, and Crystal, I love you all. I have always looked at you all as my brother and sisters. I am so sorry for your loss. Alma Joe, may God watch over you my dear. I know you have went through a lot Grandma. I love you. Dochie, you were Pig's love. There is no Pig without you. You will always be considered family and we love you. I pray that God watches over you all. The grandchildren will know who their grandpa was. May God heal your heart, not while we grieve in death, but while we grieve in celebration of his life.
When I talked to my wife, she told me what Pig was saying before he passed. Pig was his nickname and what everyone called him, just to clarify. Pig was talking about going home. My wife thought that he still believed that he was in the hospital. He had just came home Thursday night. Pig then began to mention his dad and grandma, who both have already passed away. He kept saying, "no grandma, no, no". He saw his grandma this morning before he passed away. He tried his best to fight against sleeping, but he couldn't do it anymore. Every time he saw a light, he mentioned going home. I only mention this because I know he saw his grandma this morning. It gives me comfort knowing that he is not alone. This is just another powerful example of why I believe in God. Pig, I love you and always will dad. Until we meet again...
