Nathaniel Grey: A Young Writer
Nathaniel Grey is a 17-year-old writer who resides in Gilbert, AZ. Inspired by public figures, such as Walt Disney, Imogen Heap, and Adam Young (Owl City), he has scribed at least seven poems and three stories.
At first, he merely jotted down words into his journal, but was later encouraged by his English teacher. He immediately took notice of a short narrative Nathaniel had written for his class. This made him want to continue in writing poems and short stories.
To display his overflowing creativity, he decided to create a website to share his writing with the world. Upon arrival, guests hear his favorite songs playing and are shown buttons used to reveal his writing: Stories and Poetry. Other options include About me, Insight, Inspired by, and Guest Book/Music features.
The title at the top of the website captures it all: Remarkable Literature. The music, design, and writing combine together to form an imaginative world of escape.
Preston's writing, both thoughtful and emotional, displays the use of imagery, word choice, and structure to carefully guide the reader through his mind's eye. He shares his innermost thoughts in his poetry and spins unique stories that will surely captivate and inspire many people in the years to come.
About the Writer
"It has always been a passion of mine to write, but it was not always meant for other people to read. I feel vulnerable when people read my writing, as if someone opened my heart and mind collectively and learned who I really am. My introverted self draws me to pen and paper and makes a readable form of my thoughts, fantasies, life experiences, and wishes. It was nice meeting you."-Nathaniel Grey
Sample Poem: 'The Sound'
I was taken by a sound,
A sound that took me in,
A certain sound that with its certainty,
Had swept and captivated me.
It was this sound,
A sound so abstractive,
That racked the very threads of my soul,
It plucked them with a perfect sincerity.
I longed for its voice,
An invitation of sorts,
So I dreamt in its mesmerizing lull,
A lull so, so dense, I drowned in its trance.
I was carried away into longing emotion,
A sort of nostalgic blur,
But the blur, it was unique,
It brought me ephemeral hope.
The kind of hope that makes you think,
The kind that makes you waveringly say, “It’s going to be ok,”
The kind of hope that forces you to the floor, unable to stand,
A hope that tortures.
I was carried further away,
So far, in fact, contact with my subconscious was lost,
I had never felt so far away from myself,
And just then, a terrifying thought had occurred within me.
“What if I cannot find myself,
What if myself is lost?”
I was awaken by a pound,
A pound that was really more of a sound,
Yes, a sound, abstractive and sincere,
I remember, I wished it had been palpable.
It was a wish so familiar,
It almost felt iniquitous that it should enter my thoughts,
After all, palpability was never explicit,
And such knowledge wasn’t always available to me.
But, for just a moment, I felt true bliss,
A feeling so calm that it truly shocked me,
And shocked me so deeply I had not realized,
The thriving sound was coming from within me.
