Prose - The End

Source

We begin
So we can
End
For some
The end
Begins
When it starts
For some
The glory
The fleeting glory
Ends
When those who bestow
Say it ends
As destiny
Also ends
When God says it ends
As time
Vanishes
In the blink of an eye

For some
The worst place
In the world
Is anywhere they stand
And
The end
Is a gift
For others
The end
Is a myth
As they live
As insanely rational
Men
Powerful men
Who forget
What they are
And in their insane
Rationality
They lose themselves
And believe
The end
Does not exist
But what is considered
Insane

In this world
Is clarity
The knowledge
Of the end
And how the end
Is in the hands
Of insanely rational men
And how the end
For the irrationally sane man
Feeds his madness
As existence
Is more than he can bear
He cannot say
“That’s all there is”
There must be more
Than the end
And in his quest
To be true
He becomes insane
In your eyes
Because
You can deny
Your mortality
While he
Lives for it
The end
Is his life
From the day
It begins
It ends
Each day
Is the last
Then it’s not
And he begins
Again
To teach you
Of the conspiracy
And murder
Of man’s essence
For their pleasure
Yet you don’t listen
Instead

You lay
In the sun
Worshipping another killer
Because
The end
Is not considered
It never is
You are just going along
For the ride
While insanely rational men
Control you
And irrationally sane men
Make you feel sane
And in control
Of your life
But who is insane?
The one who controls?
The one who refuses
To be controlled?
Or you?
The one
Who shrugs
At the end
Living as nothing
But a memory
For others
Who shrug
While the insanely rational
And the irrationally sane
Laugh

Your style is very deep and thought provoking. Writing about how people feel about the end is awesome! We won't ever know because we will not be coming back this way again.

@Nan - Thank you for you nice comment. We never know; nobody comes back to tell us the truth so we each have to decide what it means.

In the end,it takes honesty to admit we mostly pretend.;)An important and sincerely creative piece TSP.;)

Very well done, SP. Mentalist, you've got a good point: but if we don't admit it we're hypocrites! Which is why I guess I fall into the 'insanely rational and the irrationally sane Laugh' - Very introspective piece, Sub Poet. Thank you!

Quietly we all wait. But not collectively. Nice work.

@Mentalist acer - It is hard to face the reality of the coming end. I don't like to think about it either but so many things end during our lives and yet we live on.... thank you for commenting.

@Teylina - thank you. I have to admit I confused myself at one point with the irrational sanity versus insanely rational parts. I would stare at it and go "does that make a lick of sense?"

It makes as much of a "lick of sense" as that old saying that I've heard all my life! Would like to know where it came from--think it must have to do w/cats and lickin'! No. Hub put very, very well. Besides, I've no idea how anyone could write anything along these lines without some confusion! After all, what do we really know? And how many of us really think deeply about our 'normalcy' or sanity or lack thereof? Since we live in a totally confusing, insane world, why should we think we don't have to part the curtains of mist to even find ourselves? Great Hub!

@Teylina - That's thing... nobody really knows but there seems to be so much certainty. It seems many people idolize those who are stealing from their fan base while those who really see what is happening are marginalized... I guess that is what I'm trying to say.

Succinctly put. Wasn't sure anyone but Will could say it like that. Anyway, very good hub. I'm gone.
