Rastafaria (modified edition)

Rastafaria.

The name Rastafari was derived from Ras Tafari, the title of Haile Selassie 1,the Rastafarian movement arose in a Christian culture in Jamaica in the 1930(s).It is not a religion as most people see it but a way of life, it has proved that an idea is the lead lane in one’s life and also that a seed can make a tree. Rastafarians have always urged one another to find inspirations within themselves; because of this, so many do not claim to belong to any of the sects that make up Rastafarian. Among them are these three most common Nyahbinghi, The Bobo Ashanti and The Twelve Tribes of Israel. Among the first and early Rastafarians was Leonard Howell.

Belief

Rastas believe in Christian doctrine and in God (JAH) and Jesus Christ but argue that Jesus Christ was black but white Christian society (or Babylon) has commonly depicted him as white for centuries in order to suppress the truth and gain world dominion over all peoples. And the Rastafarians colors, Red, Green, Cold and sometimes black is symbolic. Red is said to signify the blood of Black Jamaican martyrs, green the lushness of the Ethiopan and/or Jamaican countryside, and gold the wealth of Africa.

Haile Selassie I

He was born Tafari Makonnen and was the Emperor of Ethiopia,Rastafarians sees him as the Lion. messiah whose linage could be traced to King Solomon and queen of Sheba

Food

Rastafarians or should i just say many Rastafirans eats limited kings of meat, they do not eat shellfish or pork and some are mainly vegetarians. And foods approved by rastas are called Ital.

Dreadlocks

The wearing of dreads associated Rastafarian and is supported by Leviticus 21:5.

Marijuana

For Rastas, smoking marijuana which is commonly known as herb is spiritual and helps in meditation, this theory is supported in psalm 104 v14

Music

Reggae music is the sole music of Rastafarian and it originated among poor blacks from Trench Town in Jamaica among who was the legendry Robert Nester Marley famous known as Bob Marley. He actively preached Rastafaria and propelled this movement to the world stage with his music then emerged so many other reggae super stars.

To many Rastafarians, Bob Marley remains an Icon.

Ceremonies

There are two main ceremonies observed by Rastafarians all over the world and they are Reasoning and Groudation which is the biggest ceremony.

Rastafaria has a standard prayer.(Extract from another site)

"Princes and princesses shall come forth out of Egypt, Ethiopia now stretch forth her hands before JAH. O Thou God of Ethiopia, Thou God of Thy Divine Majesty, Thy Spirit come into our hearts, to dwell in the paths of righteousness. Lead and help InI to forgive, that InI may be forgiven. Teach InI Love and loyalty on earth as it is in Zion, Endow us with Thy wisemind, knowledge and Overstanding to do thy will, thy blessings to us, that the hungry might be fed, the sick nourished, the aged protected, the naked clothed and the infants cared for. Deliver InI from the hands of our enemy, that InI may prove fruitful in these Last Days, when our enemy have passed and decayed in the depths of the sea, in the depths of the earth, or in the belly of a beast. O give us a place in Thy Kingdom forever and ever, so we hail our God JAH Selassie I, Jehovah God, Rastafari, Almighty God, Rastafari, great and powerful God JAH, Rastafari. Who sitteth and reigneth in the heart of man and woman, hear us and bless us and sanctify us, and cause Thy loving Face to shine upon us thy children, that we may be saved, SELAH."

Rossimosis, found you from Mickey's referral and was attracted to this hub because of a friend I knew years ago who is a Rasta, his name is Nature. We had many deep discussions about the Bible and although in the end we agreed to disagree, I often think about him and wonder if he ever made it to Jamaica to live. He was the first and only Rastafarian I spoke with, until now, so he will always remain in my memory. Nice to meet you!
