Review: Coming Apart by Charles Murray

Coming apart gives you a snapshot of America from before the assassination of John F. Kennedy up to 2010. The book is broken down into three sections, The Formation of a New Upper Class, The Formation of a New Lower Class and Why It Matters. Charles Murray also gives supplemental resources and information at the end of this book.

This book wasn't easy to read at times it felt like I was reading stereo instructions from the eighties. One quote in the prologue sums up the whole book,"My primary goal is to introduce recognition of the ways in which america is coming apart at the seams-not seams of race or ethnicity, but of class," Charles Murray.

Murray uses a lot of graphs and statistics making this book at times seem more like a text book for a college student than one for mainstream Americans that he is trying to reach. Everyone has an opinion on how this country is falling apart and why it is and this is just that another persons opinion backed by statistics.

Overall unforgettably this was a boring read and good insomniacs. Students and teachers of society may find this an interesting read but for mainstream readers its a hard sell.

“I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review”.
