SHATTERED - Romance And Sci-Fi Story
The Time Is Now...
It was late. She wanted to go to the party but something told her to stay home. Something had worried her for quite a while and the paranoia that had built up deep inside for many years was coming on strong. The phone rang and it was him so she decided to stay quiet for a while and listen while he spoke. Her heart was fluttering from excitement but she could not deal with it all so she laughed a lot. She often does that when she is nervous and it sort of takes the intensity out of the conversation. This was something that had saved her from pain many times before. She was so good at making jokes when she was nervous.
Bianca Cole had been working really late hours for quite a while and it was getting harder and harder to sleep throughout the night with so much on her mind. The memories of her youth were getting more and more clear and the past was catching up to her. There were still a lot of shattered memories. Painful visions of a lot of turmoil and a lot of hard times were always haunting her. She stayed silent on the phone as he spoke. And her mind started to race. She listened quietly as she stared out the window imagining her future and the places she was going. His voice stopped and there was a silence on the phone before she spoke. “I’m leaving here tonight. Will you meet me in New York? I know it is far but not as far as here.” The electric current was reaching out of the phone on so many levels.
He knew he had a long way to travel. He knew that it would take a lot to grab her heart, but he knew what he had to do. “Yes, I will be there tomorrow.” This was the sort of man she longed for. Someone who would be there whenever she needed him. She had been let down so many times before.
She sat in her glass house and wondered what her future would be like as she had visions of a different life. Working for A.U.T.O.M.A. Enterprises was not easy and she was privy to trade secrets and her life could be in danger if she ever slipped up. She knew that the new generation of cyborgs they were building would change the world and she knew that she would be part of it. Deep down she was scared of that responsibility and knew that she would be part of the eventual takeover. But part of her also knew that her time was up and that others would eventually get rid of her. So she decided to do what she always wanted to do before it was too late. The man on the other line was there for her and she was not going to miss it nomatter what.
The past year had been insane and Bianca was losing her grip. The company she was working with was sold to a bigger corporation and they were slowly losing their power in the new world of manufacturing. She had tried everything to keep control of her scientific advances, but others kept getting in the way. One particular tyrant by the name of Ostello was increasingly making her life difficult and would go to extensive lengths to make sure she was kept in check. It was all about money and power and he knew that Bianca could ruin everything if she wanted too. All she had to do was pick up the phone and she could ruin his life. That much power always ends up with a very bad ending and she knew it.
When she hung up the phone, she went to the power screen on her wall and decided to turn on camera at her office across town. She looked at it all on the screen and she made sure everything was normal before she shut the system down. When she walked into her bedroom she looked at the pictures on her dresser of the memories that were still in her heart before the kids grew up and went on with their lives. Her suitcase had been packed earlier in the day and she still was leaving it open for last minute additions. She walked to her closet and pulled out her long black dress that she had worn at all her best occasions and decided to put it in for old times sake. It had been a long time since she had really had fun and there was no way that she was not going to have the best time of her life.
The driver was outside and there was a stranger below waiting nearby. She caught site of him when she glanced out of the window. The hair stood up on the back of her neck and she frantically searched for her weapon and strapped it under her arm. This was the beginning of the takeover and she knew it was all part of the eventual set up. She called her friend at the police station and asked him to send a car and made sure that it would hover across the street with cameras on the entry of her building. When she made her way down with her suitcase in hand, the stranger had disappeared and there was no sign of him at all. This was happening more and more often and she often wondered if they were real or hallucinations since she was under so much pressure at work. She got inside the car and dialed her partner at work. “Someone was outside waiting for me Rob.” There was a long silence at the end of the line. “Where are you going now?” Bianca was not sure who she could really trust anymore so she told him a lie. “I am headed to Boston” to see family. I will be in touch very soon.” Rob knew her too well. “Whatever you do, do not see him.” She stayed quiet and started to laugh while she figured her way out of the conversation. “No worries Rob, I know. I am a grown woman you know.” She pulled out a picture of a place that she had never seen before. It rang of eternity and she could not stop smiling.. She finally felt like she was home.

Money and looks can't buy love and someone who listens is much hotter then someone who doesn't.
