SOME DREAM IT WAS: A POEM

Violin droning afar

Brilliant golden light

Falling in patterns through the blind

Oh! Twas a dreamy sight

That met her eyes

She gave a gasp, heart leaping within her chest

Yes! By some blessed miracle

She’d come to her dreamland, she cared not for the rest

221 B, it said, By Jove!

She began her ascent on the seventeen steps

Carefully, treasuring every sweet stair

Emotions battling to be heard, with joyous trips

She knocked, door opened

The tobacco smoke, the familiar sight and scent

The shabby papers and crime records

Still she cared not for those articles, but cherished what it meant

Yes! The lair of the great Sherlock Holmes

She found him carolling away like some dreamy lark

Eyes deep shut, the cold marble veil ripped to pieces

These were his intense moments, the light in his dark

Fingertips drawn together in deep meditation

Her hero, her dearest admiration before her

But she could scarce speak, just breath in her voice

So there she stood noiselessly, without the slightest care

Victorian sights, Venetian blinds, the violin case

And the Bohemian gentleman

Art for art’s sake truly came alive here

By some darling heavenly plan

Then she summoned every nerve she could muster

To speak, oh yes! To speak to him

Her vision blurred with tears, throat choking

“Holmes” she called soft as the sights grew dim

His face assumed an expression of surprise

And his dark brows knit together as he opened those steely gray eyes

And the harsh thin lips broke into a familiar smile

Hysteric with joy, she laughed with a thousand happy sighs

And then he began to address her,

But the swirling blue wreaths from his pipe became dense and cloudy

The room swam before her eyes,

And just like that, she awoke from her dream, sweet and lovely

That night, that sight, she shall treasure forever

That night which can be, never!

Another beautiful poem Sharon, if I ever get to meet my favourite literary character, then I'd love it to play out in a similar way to this poem. Wonderful :)

An excellent rendition on exactly how it would have been, minus, of course, what would have been remarkable adventures...

It's beautiful how you've captured the smoky room and the strains of violin of you fevered dream. I was half hoping he would say:

"Shhh. you don't have to speak. I could see you come from a city with a great temple . You are 18. The faint mark on your index finger and the dent on your forearm tell me you love writing and the dog eared book of Dryden poems protruding from your coat tell me you are a student of English Literature. The way you keep touching the cross tell me you are a devout follower of our Lord. Yet you are here seeking my help. Pray sit down. Watson, would you be kind enough to tell Mrs Hudson to bring the lady a hot cup of tea"

Voted up and beautiful!

How could I forget Watson, theirs was an epic friendship wasn't it! Thank you so much Docmo! Hope you have a cheerful day ahead! The game is afoot! ;)

Voted up and awesome. That's some dream Sharon. Sherlock Holmes himself would be honored at the mention.
