STAY HOME, BE HAPPY - No Need To Travel Far This Summer

A Vacation Near Your Home

How many times do you hear people say that they can't wait to go to Europe this summer? With airfare at an all time high (unless you have a lot of air miles and are not traveling at peak season), you are looking at a few thousand dollars for the plane trip alone. By the time you pay for food, exhibits, hotels and train fare it just keeps adding up. Even after getting a good fare to Europe last summer and also being paid to make appearances in Ireland, I was still out thousands of dollars.

The point is that with all of that money (I knew quite a few people there that spent a fortune when they were there and they were not paid to show up at a festival we all attended), they could have done a lot of things near their home and made it more enjoyable on-going, not just on a holiday. Thousands of dollars are spent on travel every year and most of the time after the trip, people get depressed about coming back to their regular lives. Maybe it is because they were never happy being "home" in the first place? Just think about it! What would the travel industry do if everyone was just happy staying home? Could you imagine? No big shopping sprees or designer clothes for that cruise? These companies would go broke! In fact, they do really well because most people go on expensive vacations to feel "happy" because most people are not happy with their lives or their home and relationships.

Outside Adventures

Stay home and be happy by venturing around close to where you live. There are so many places near your home that you may not be aware of. Even if you have to drive a few hours away, there is a chance that you will be near beautiful places. So many families in Europe go to places a few hours from home and have many great holidays during the year, not just one really expensive one.

Think about it, all of those things you have wanted to do for the past few years. Redo your garden or get some new gear to venture out (kayaks, camera gear, camping supplies, an RV or trailer). There are so many things you can do with that money that will be spent somewhere that you may never go back to. If you really want to go to France or London, pick a time of year that is cheap to travel and hotel and airfare are included. It will be less swamped with tourists during those times and there will be shorter lines at the main exhibits and more.

The Travel Industry Would Close Down If Everyone Loved Staying Near Home

Could you imagine how many industries would suffer if everyone actually enjoyed being home or happy venturing close to their homes? The fashion industry would take a hit also and let's not even mention the duty free shops in most international airports! "No, it's ok I will just use the rose oil I bought at my local market for $10 instead of the lavender oil from France that I bought for $50." I mean is it really that different?! No.

I guess the industries that would boom would be anything to do with camping and outdoor ventures like bicycles, camping gear and other stuff that you can keep and use over and over again. If you live in a colder climate, why not venture out anyway because in Europe sometimes it rains out of nowhere! In fact it rained even in the summer when I was there (This has happened in England, France, Ireland and Italy). There have been other times that the sun has been out there and then all of a sudden it rains for a week. So, if you live in a place that sounds similar, why not just stay closer to home and make the best of it?

Too many people try to escape their every day lives instead of finding ways to truly be happy at home. When you look at those brochures, make sure you put yourselves in them. I can assure you whatever you are running from will follow you there. When you get back to your regular life, nothing will have changed. It will be the same, in the same place with the same people doing the same things over and over again.

Build An Old Shack With Old Supplies

Just add lavender plants and stones around an old shack! Put some music on and voila!

Make Your Vacation Come To You

So, here you are deciding to save your money for your trip around the world one day or that trip to Italy that you have dreamed about for years. Have you ever really thought that those old postcards that you saw many years ago will be nothing like the place you dreamed about when you finally get there? Loud street noises and large crowds and many tourists all there at the same time sort of take away the romantic part of this dream. Ofcourse your master plan is that you will do this expensive trip when you are truly happy at home and have accomplished all that you have wanted to. Or atleast have made your life, relationships and home a priority first.

This will make all the difference in the world because when you finally venture out to this foreign place at peak season or not and spend all of that money, you will be happy with your life when you return home. That will make all the difference in the world.

In light of the cost and potential danger of travel these days, your post makes a lot of sense, GPAGE. But keep an eye out for strangers and watch your back. The National Travel Association may be looking for you. ;)
