Sakura.

When the cherry blossoms blossom,

they remind me of your passing.

It was the year when a cloud

almost obscured the sun.

It was the year when my heart

was filled with sadness.

It was so heavy to carry

the secret unseen burden of it

often caused me to stumble.

I did not weep, sometimes

nor cease to sleep, sometimes.

Though at times the loss

of you made me feel

that I might  drown on the air

of a day in a world without

you as part of it.

The poem -

Sakura, the falling of the Cherry Blossom

is my own work and is poetry insprired by the loss of my father who I loved dearly.

Please do not steal this and use it on your blogs etc. it means more to me than it could to anyone else.

However if you wish to read it at a memorial service or funeral, then you may.

Please do not publish it in print or on-line elsewhere or claim it as your own work the copyright is mine.

You would not wish to feel the grief that inspired this poem, but if you have then my sympathy is sent to you.

Explanation ...

Sakura is the name for cherry blossom,

the time of year when life is supposed to be one's focus.

I drifted through the time of the cherry blossom,

the winter chill still grasp my heart.

It took a long time to thaw, the ice

to fall as tears. Bravery is respected

but at times it is the most self destructive

emotion. It is only when one unlocks

the grief that you can begin to heal.

Oddly it is like a wound upon the trunk of a tree.

The scar tissue forms eventually.

But it is a process that one must allow to happen naturally.

I still miss his smile - I will never stop thinking of my father , it just hurts less to do so as time passes.

This is lovely. I love cherry blossoms and your imagery is beautiful (the pictures are too) and this hits close to home, as I'm sure it does for a lot of us reading this poem.

Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Desiree I am pleased that you are happy with this. It is always difficult for me to share poems like this one and your comment has made me feel it is worth while.

I know that time passes but I do believe that the love I have for my dad is still alive.

Thank you so much. And my dad would have loved the tattoo I picked out. Thanks for posting this.

Thank you Desiree for leaving a comment here, it was good to know someone likes these words. I had been feeling the mix of joy and sadness at seeing the buds on the trees begin to open in the morning sunshine, so it was good to know someone has read this. My dad would not have liked me to have a tattoo, different generation, different ideas. Please make sure if you have this done you get it done by someone skilled as you will have it with you for a long time.

Losing someone special does get easier to live with in time, I do n't think you ever stop missing them though.

My dad was a secret poet, so I guess this is a suitable tribute to him. You are welcome to use part of the poem, as we share this feeling about the blossom trees.

I hope all goes well for you thank you for sharing. Sending best wishes for your future.

Thank you Erika I still greet the spring time cherry blossom with joy at the sight of it and sadness that I lost him. He left us like blossom when it falls suddenly from the tree but the memory of him and the cherry blossom lives on in my heart.

Thank you Oremie - I know what you mean. Sometimes I can sense what he would say in a given circumstance - often if I feel sad I know he would want me to be happy, which helps. I am at last getting on with life rather than looking backwards to a time of sadness, writing helps. I will look at your hubpages, nice to 'meet you'.

Blackreign thank you also, for reading and leaving a comment for me.

I like this very touching! My dad died in 2006 but I think they are around us still although I have no evidence of that but I believe it! Do you ever watch Crossing Over With John Edward? Fascinating tv show, I'm going to see him at the Apollo, Victoria, London in May!My hub is on Spring in London at last and my love for the pink clusters that are the beautiful cherry blossom. That's how I found your poems.
